A week ago I made or produced a homemade coconut oil from my own coconuts behind my Philippines house. Of course with the help of my cousin. This is not the first time I made it. I used to help my mother and my grandmother making their own coconut oil when I was still a child. They made this oil in an old fashion way. From getting off the husks of the coconuts, cutting them into halves, grating the coconuts and cooking the milk until the oil came out. I don't wonder now why the coconut oil is very expensive in Germany. Making the oil is hard work but my cousin and I enjoyed it. This time, I am writing an article on how I made this. Do you use coconut oil in your cooking? How do you like it? The photo above is the pan with coconut milk turning to coconut oil.

@Icydoll we use coconut oil for skin care and for our hairs, too. Using coconut oil in frying potatoes is delicious, too. Well, for me. It’s a matter of taste.

I also know how to cook it; but it is quite laborious if I will still grate the coconut. It is good we can buy freshly squeezed coconut milk at the market.

Yes, it is a hard work especially that we cooked it in an open fire. It took 2 hours to make the coconut oil. We had to use our own coconuts or else they would go bad @acelawrites.

I make in small quantities for my personal use.. skin and hair. I cook with store bought coconut oil.. I like it.. But my children don't like the flavor so much.

That is great @sofssu. I love coconut oil and I use this for my homemade body scrub and for conditioning my hair. Coconut oil and cream is not for all people. Some like it, some don't.

@sofssu yes, I am used to it and it always reminds me of the time when my grandparents made the coconut oil.

I would like to give you a "love" instead of just "like". It's so nice to see you are still using the woods to burn and cook the coconut oil. I have not made that before, I have not use woods to cook before, and I have not seen anyone do that too. It'd be really nice experience to make that. Sometimes it's good to use the traditional ways to make things.

Thank you very much @kaka135. I used the woods for cooking the coconut oil as I didn't like to consume my gas so fast. It took 2 hours making the oil and so I did it with woods. I love using the firewood in cooking as it reminds me of the days when I was young.

I never thought to make our own - I am spoiled that we could pretty much buy it anywhere (but can be expensive). I'm not sure how well we could make our own at home . . . people who know coconuts tell me the ones in the store are old and rather dry. I do love using coconut oil - and coconut milk too!

If I don’t have coconut trees with fruits behind my house, I would not make coconut oil because making it is tiresome. Ready made coconut oil is too expensive not only in Germany but also in my home country Philippines. I made the oil because I need it for my skin care like making my own body scrub. Thanks @much2say

My mother also used to make coconut oil for her hair. How we love eating the curdled coconut shreds after. Hey, I have seen that you have posted a lot and you are still in the Philippines?

I was not able to eat the curdled shred of making the oil as I burned it , thus making my coconut oil brown @SIMPLYD. Yes, we are still in Pinas.

Yes, it was fun though it was a hard work kept on stirring the coconut milk for almost 2 hours until it became oil @PainsOnSlate.

I can relate to that @ridingbet. It really smells good. I made a body scrub out of coconut oil and coffee. It was amazing to my skin. Very soft that I didn’t need to put cream on my skin.
