I cooked all of this just for me!

To night I cooked something for supper that I haven't cooked in a long time. By the time I got through eating I was stuffed!
I took the time today to put on a pot of pinto beans and when it was done I cooked everything else. The menu I cooked was: fried okra, browned potatoes smothered in mushroom sauce with onions, rice, boneless pork chops, pinto beans and a cake of corn bread!
I don't know how anyone else likes these things, but it was sure good to me!!
I guess this is what some call Southern cooking.

I like it! Okra is very good for your health. I found some frozen ones at Safeway. I love it!. Love Mexican dishes, but too much for me now just one can of refined beans can last me 4 days, I like melted cheese and Mexican rice with my beans. I found a frozen one just for one time serving, and it's okay. Better one time frozen meal than 4x from the can.
Sounds delicious what you had cooked!

thank you, it was real good to me. Just took a while to cook all that stuff. I like some Mexican food, I haven't tried a whole lot of it. My neighbor's mother lives down the street from us and that's what she cooks all the time. They have brought me a couple of things she has made, all I got to say is if that's what all the rest of Mexican food taste like, I would pass. What she made wasn't good to me!

Taco Bell has good deals on Mexican food, but it's totally up to you if you like it. There are other variety of foods to cook at home. I sometimes will get frozen variety for foods for it's cheaper and just has the amount for one time eating which is good for me. Cooking stew which I like, takes me 4 or 5 days to finish it. Buying it like a plate lunch can get pricey. So I hope I can find a happy medium, for I like stew. Canned stew Dinty Moore has the brown stew ...I like tomato base stews, so I guess I got to compromise somewhere and be happy to get a small amount of stew in a can or eat 5 days of homemade tomato base stew.

@oahuwriter I do the same thing when it comes to things like beef stew, I just find with me, like your said it's just easier to open a can. I also like the food at Taco Bell, I just don't think that woman down the street can cook good to tell the truth.

That okra was nice and crisp, I think I can eat it any kind of way.

Wow, you really did cook. I haven't had pinto beans in a long time. But all of it sounds great.

I cook and love all those things except the rice. But you just can't beat a good pot of dry beans and fried potatoes!

That's so true, the next time I think I'll cook up a pot of baby Lima beans! them things are good to, don't care much about the big Lima beans though, just the baby ones.

I don't do it a lot any more since it is only me, like I told Krissttina Isobe, I will have to eat leftovers tomorrow because of cooking all of this. I wish I could master the art of cooking just a small amount of each thing. Do you eat any meat at all or just not pork?

I do like the leftovers sometimes, just like with the pinto beans, I'll worm them in a skillet with some onions and put a little of the rice in it. I could make a meal just off of that.

Yum, it sounds good to me, but I'd add or replace something with good Southern cooked winter greens (mustard greens, turnip greens etc.) cooked with bacon.
