Because a Picture of a Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The photo accompanying this post is of turtles because my wife ate the perfectly grilled ham and cheese sandwich I made for her for lunch before I could get a picture. The turtles live outdoors in the pond at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. I haven't heard any word yet on how the aquarium did weathering Florence. I hope they had no major damage. My son and I still don't know for certain if we'll get to camp at Carolina Beach State Park next weekend. Most state parks here in the east are closed until further notice. I am going to call tomorrow and see if he and I can come down as volunteers and dry camp at the park while we do. If we can't do that, we might see if we can help out at the sailing camp where we both learned to sail. I hope y'all are having a good Sunday.

The work to be done is immeasurable and full recovery will take years. Some people have lost so much they will have to start over from nothing. If we can help, we must. That's how I was raised and how I raised my sons.

I don't know that having had pet turtles I could eat turtle. Some folks do, though.

I fear most of the park we hoped to visit wound up under water during Hurricane Florence and there is a huge mess to clean up before it can reopen.

The turtles do make a nice picture, but do you remember the picture I posted some time ago of a grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch my honey made for me. Now that was a pretty picture.

The pond at the Fort Fisher aquarium is full of healthy happy turtles. At least they're happy until the alligators pay a visit.

Yes, it has been pretty good. Nice pic. If I can squeeze it in. I might try to go to Nags Head next week..but not sure..we will see. It might just be a day trip. Actually Corolls is closer.

It is beginning to look like my son and I will not be able to make our trip to Carolina Beach State Park as it is still closed and shows no sign of opening soon. My wife and I had reservations for later in October and are wondering if our trip will be cancelled as well.

I love that shot of the turtles. Now I'm hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich but I don't buy bread so I'll just have veggies and boiled eggs with a tortilla. At least it's healthy and filling, right?

I've tried to call the State Park office to see if we can volunteer there but they aren't taking calls right now. My son will talk to the person who runs the sailing camp about us helping out down there.
