*My other JOB!

the plug prior to getting fixed

Since I am the self-designated and self-appointed electrician and maintenance person, I did a task this morning. Last night, the plug of our rice cooker sparked and my sister shouted and trembled. She said to me, “remove the plug now” so I used a pot holder and removed the plug from the socket. This morning, I did that task of fixing the plug. I did it and I was able to cook rice in the rice cooker. My sister is always ‘hands-off’ when it pertains to fire or electrical outlets. She has the materials but it is my work to change it. Right now, I am alone. I finished computing the grades of my second group of students and I will transcribe it in the grading sheet tomorrow. I can relax later after my school tasks.

@ZedSmart we are using my rice cooker from Kuwait yet. It was bought by me in 1988 so it is now 30 years old. Still functioning well though. My brother bought a new one but it is not working anymore. 2 years. That is the viability of the Sanyo rice cooker. Mine is national.

Good thing that you have a knack at fixing things broken. I think that is a good skill you have and that is handy in a place you control.

I usually do myself without asking my husband. I have changed the cord of my iron last week. Now I have a brand new one.

@ridingbet I said that now I have a brand new iron, because the one I repaired looks like new, I replaced the cord and cleaned the iron, it looks new. I would have bought a new one, it's not something that my husband would take care of.

but your iron, the one you fixed, it is working well, right? maybe too your husband bought a new iron because he thought you should always be safe handling the iron.

The safest thing to do if something like that happens is to turn off the fuse box switch or circuit breaker if it does not trip, you also did the right thing by pulling out the plug but at times it might be hot or melted if it's short circuited.

@ridingbet I think that's good enough just make sure the pot holder is dry cause sometimes they can be damp and you are wearing slippers just in case something like that happens again which I hope not

i just removed the plug, brought the connection wire to the table, and did the repair in open sunlight, not artificial fluorescent light.

@louievill yes, the pot holder was dry, and my slippers were also dry. the cord of the rice cooker was not plugged in so i just pulled out the cord from the rice cooker.

i do, as long as they are unplugged. and since i am the one cooking rice through the rice cooker, i would plug in to the socket with a dry cloth that i hold.

Things become easier now because of the information online. Sometimes, I am trying it but if I can't fix something it is time for me to call the ambulance... Ha ha.

oh, i don't check online. it is already inherent to fix the plug and place each end of the wire in the pins and seal it tight with electrical tape.

@simplfred it is inherent. nce we know that (-) should not be attached to a (+) charge, is already inherent.
