I’ve given up coffee let’s see if I can do it for good this time

Yesterday I went over to my boyfriends house for a few hours. We watched the first episode of a new Netflix original called “The Haunting of Hill House”. I had been really excited about it for weeks but the first episode was only okay. He untied his beagle from how I had tied it in the kennel and he immediately ran over to the side and stuck his face through and managed to get himself out. He happily ran around the yard. He was all excited to play with my dog but she was scared. He’s a sweet little dog I wish he were an inside dog I took a shower quick while I was there and then my dog and I left. But the sticker decided she wanted to run around his yard more instead of getting in my van. I chased her around his property for at least 10 minutes. I slept terrible last night. I was cold and I have to be good and warm to sleep. This morning I woke up and turned the heat up a notch. I ran out of coffee yesterday and I had said a week ago next time I run out I will be quitting. I thought I had another bag in my cellar though so I wasn’t expecting to have to quit so soon. I do have homemade cappuccino mix enough for two cups. I drank one today but it has very little coffee in it. It’s 7pm now and my head is really hurting from caffeine withdrawal. Due to not sleeping well and not having coffee I was unbearable tired today and any spare change I got I had to lay down. I made sure to take my iron pills that I had forgotten to take the past 3 days. Since my water heater isn’t fixed yet I had to boil water on my stove to wash the dishes with. The cut on my hand from a few days ago hurt terribly in that hot water. I did a large load of dishes and then dried the pans off that I had boiled water in. It had been sitting on the burner to cool down. I didn’t expect it to be hot and bumper the bottom of it on my wrist and burnt it. I’m debating if I should take some Advil. Right now I’m laying on the couch and will be reading for a bit. My phones battery is going to die but I want to save enough battery life to play SwagIq since there’s a team challenge on Swagbucks right now.

The first time I stopped drinking coffee I had a headache for a week and went back to drinking it. Last time it lasted two weeks and I started drinking it again. I had a horrible one last night but I am determined to quit once and for all.

@nela13 I have one big thermos which I believe holds 20 oz. As bad as the head ache was last night I can't imagine if I drank many cups through out the day and then quit.

@nela13 no headache here today thankfully! If you had to quit you probably wouldn’t suffer to much with only drinking a cup a day.

I have heard that it's easier on the body if you just lessen how much you drink each day instead of going cold turkey. I only drink coffee on weekends but have green tea on weekdays - so obviously I haven't tried cutting the caffeine myself . Good luck!

@much2say I don't like tea but I do have some. If I get a headache again later maybe I should make myself a cup rather then take Advil. Cutting back would have been better but I didn't listen to people's advice and had such a bad headache last night I thought I was going to be sick.

I've cut down on my coffee intake. Is this an option for you as you may not get such a headache if you start by cutting down on the amount you have.

@JudyEv I really wish I had listened to others who mentioned that. I thought the only way I'd ever be able to quit is by just completely avoiding it! The headache I had last night was debilitating and I was really kicking myself for not listening to others. I had to take two Advil but felt better when I woke up. Now my head is starting to hurt again. I'll avoid Advil as long as possible but I am sure by tonight I will have to take it again.

Why do you want to give up coffee? Coffee is actually good for you. It is a big anti oxidant. it can even help with Alzheimers prevention.

@snowy22315 The coffee itself does have health benefits but all the junk I put in it does not. When I first started drinking it I out in a heaping tablespoon of hot cocoa, 3 T. Sugar, 3 T. Powdered creamer and 3 T. Sugar and milk. I had a red stripe down my face that would itch. I've cut it back to 3 tsp. Hazelnut powdered sugar, 3 tsp artificial sugar and milk. But still it's just not healthy with that junk in it and I can't it out anymore and still drink it because I hate the taste.

If you are able to stay off coffee you will have my admiration. I went without coffee for a while recently. It was the longest drive from home to the Burger King where I get my breakfast I've ever endured. Thank goodness, they had coffee.

@DWDavis I quit in the past a week and two weeks and the headache lasted the entire time. So far I don’t have one today and it’s nearing bed time.

@DWDavis lol I'm glad that they had coffee when you arrived. Day 1 didn't go well. I had a horrible headache that made me feel sick to my stomach. I had to take Advil.

@shaggin I have successfully stopped drinking coffee for long stretches in the past. The first few days were the hardest because of the headaches. Each time, I've eventually gone back to drinking it again.

@LadyDuck yep coffee itself is good for us but I put in hazelnut powdered creamer, milk and artificial sugar. The creamer and sugar are not healthy so I'm not helping my health any by drinking this. Since I started drinking it years ago my face has a redness down the center. The more sugar and things I put in it the worse it was. I cut back a lot over the years but it's still not good!

@shaggin Creamers are not even sold in most European countries, because of the ingredients. I put a little cream (real dairy cream) in my coffee and no sugar at all.

My husband and I drink a pot of coffee every morning. Its a tradition and has been all our life together. Sharing the pot with another means we both get three cups over a few hours with the papers and news in the morning. He is still at the Y and I am on my first cup.

@shaggin we still have our three cups in the morning but that is all - we don't drink coffee any other than first in the morning. I often drink tea in the afternoon... Holy cow, how did you even find this comment from17 Oct to May 29

@josie_ I quit twice before and it didn't last either but this time I am determined to quit for good! The coffee has health benefits but the stuff I put in it is not healthy at all and I feel worse for my health. If I could drink it black or with just a little milk that would be healthy but I can't stomach the taste of it without all the other things I put in.

@FayeHazel the first Advil last night didn't even touch the pain but the second one and laying down in bed did help. I went to bed about 8:30 and felt so much better when I woke up. I'm still waiting on my brother in law to come look at my hit water heater. I'm really hoping he can get it fixed I want to do the dishes and shower at home so badly!

@CarolDM I drink about 20 oz in he morning and that's all but the junk I put in it like powdered creamer is very unhealthy. I have wanted to for years and have finally done it.

I've cut back on my coffee, but I have no intention of giving it up completely. I drink a cup in the morning and one with supper. In between ill have decaf.....my hubby has consented to give up some of his coffee and drink decaf...so it works for both of us.

@Morleyhunt thats good if it works for you and your happy with it. For me it was not healthy enough to be drinking it all the time. I stopped drinking coffee and haven't had it since. I did start drinking tea about a month after quitting coffee though.

I didn’t want to have to get up to plug it in then go get it when it was time for SwagIQ. My head is hurting so badly! I took two Advil because the first one didn’t help at all. I’m heading to bed so I will charge my phone while I sleep.
