Still planning the addition of a few trees to the landscape. Since houses are being built behind us, it is time for a little barrier. And in doing that I am finally able to get a couple more plants and trees I have been wanting. I have decided to go with a Red Dogwood tree instead of the Japanese Maple. There are so many of the maples around, seems like a lot of people have them. I like to have something different.
I grew up seeing dogwoods growing wild but they were always white. And some people had pink ones in their yard. Never seen a red one before. I found one and cannot wait to see it planted. Here is a photo of what it will look like.
Have you seen a red dogwood before?

Yes, I have seen red dogwoods, but I do not have one in the garden. Same as @BelleStarr I have two Japanese maples that are now turning red.

I think there might be a couple at the edge of the woods down the road. It is very pretty.

Every time we have a new grandchild, we plant a tree or shrub that's named for them. When our oldest grandson was born, we planted a red dogwood tree. You're right, we see lots of white ones and pink ones, but this is very pretty. When he was little, he didn't call it a red dogwood tree, he called it a red dog tree.
