Lead, arsenic, mercury, iron and copper are some of the heavy metals we are exposed to, some on a daily basis. Lower levels of iron and copper are healthy for us. Usually the amount we are exposed to are low and so it would take years for them to adversely affect our health. But, here are some ways we may not be aware of that heavy metals get into our systems: 1- Cooking does not remove heavy metals and some pesticides contain arsenic, lead and mercury. Fruits such as strawberries, pineapple, cherries, pears and papayas may have some of these heavy metals in them. Vegetables such as bell peppers, cabbage, onions, potatoes, sweet peas and corn may have it in them as well. 2- Organic chicken bone broth can have some heavy metals in it. This has a high concentration of lead in it. Animals store toxins in their bones. 3- If fish has been bred in contaminated water it will have toxins in it. Some fish contain mercury and they include tuna, mackerel, marlin and swordfish. 4- Lead pipes are still common in parts of the world. And remember that bottled water may just be tap water and could have amounts of heavy metals in them. Filters are a good ideas for faucets in the home. 5- Silver fillings used by dentists contains mercury. Over time they break down and those who have these filling end up swallowing the particles. 6- Smokers ingest heavy metals. It is in the smoke and can effect children due to second hand smoke in the air. About 80 percent of the metals are trapped in the ash and butt of the cigarette so a smoker is only getting about 20 percent but, over time and depending on how many are smokes this can be significant.
