Candlelight Vigil for Victims of Synagogue Shooting

One week ago today, eleven people were shot down by an anti-Semitic lunatic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He walked into a synagogue during a baby naming service and shot everyone possible with an assault weapon and several pistols. He kept shouting that he wanted to kill Jews.
Armed policemen showed up quickly, but he seriously injured four of them with his assault weapon. No wonder so many policemen would prefer that these weapons were not available to the general public. Their easy access put the lives of both civilians and policemen at risk.
This kind of prejudice and hatred is unacceptable. We must stand up as a nation against it.
In Laguna Beach, the churches and synagogue in the community held a candlelight vigil. Above is a photo of it, which was posted by our church.
Candlelight vigils are a thoughtful reaction to horrible events, but wouldn't it be nicer if they were not necessary? It is so sad that there is so much hatred and violence in our world.
Have you ever attended a candlelight vigil for this or any other reason?

@JudyEv - I agree completely. I cannot see any reason for these weapons, which is one reason my husband and I have gotten so involved in the election of a new US Representative from our district. Our current representative has refused to speak out against assault weapons and as actually voted to allow easy access to them. We thought that was outrageous!

@LadyDuck - You and Judy are so right. We have far too many deaths because of those weapons. There is no reason not to stop selling them. We need action on the federal level to ban them.

@BelleStarr - Hate inevitably leads to someone taking action on their hate, and that never turns out well. We really need to end the hate speech, especially from political leaders who are followed by so many people who then one to act out on that hatred.

@LadyDuck - Yes, terrorists are very sadistic. I think there is something mentally wrong with anyone who commits murder, but especially a mass murder.

@LadyDuck - I have not heard of that happening, but I can see how that would be possible. There is so much hatred and racism in the world, despite all the efforts to minimize it. It is very upsetting.

I have not yet done that. All these shootings (save one in New Orleans) were done by angry and/or mentally ill white men. Assault weapons should be banned and confiscated.

@JamesHxstatic Good, I'm glad you like the idea. These violent people should not be allowed to continue to create havoc until they kill someone.

They had a candle light vigil after what happened I believe in PIttsburgh. What was happening the Synagogue when the monster went in to shoot the people what is what we call a Brit. When the baby is 8 days old we have that where he is circumcized. Sorry Deborah Diane but I had to explain our custom to people here that may not understand it. The baby is named but the main part is circumcizing the baby when he is 8 days old. There is so much hate around the world and what is said that there are Jews that also think what they do is right by turning against fellow Jews and aiding our enemies. I do want to thank you Deborah-Diane for mentioning what happened in Pittsburgh.

@Hannihar - Thank you for explaining the Brit in greater detail. They just referred to it as a baby naming service on the news. I have actually attended a circumcism before, although it was about 20 years ago. Fortunately, there were only about 20 people present, or the number of deaths could have been even greater. What this man did was so terrible. I simply cannot understand that level of hatred against a group of people who are not bothering anyone.

@Hannihar - Yes, it is sad and depressing that one person's hate speech can cause other people to commit hate crimes.

It is hard to explain. There are a lot of ignorant people out there that follow others and do not think for themselves and so if someone says we control all they get others to think that. Look what Hitler did to the people to get them to believe in him. He murdered over 6 million of my people and put them in concentration camps and took everything from them and now there are Jews that did not learn from that and they live in Europe. It is very sad what we have been accused of and all we want to do is live in peace and quiet in our one and only Homeland. I am glad I could clear up about the Brit. I only believe in two news places online that I look at for Israel.

No, but it's sad like you say, it would be nicer if we didn't have to have them.

@popciclecold - This is so sad. Yes, it would be nicer if we did not have to hold vigils for people who have been murdered in cold blood.

@jstory07 - I agree that the violence and hatred needs to stop. It has gone way too far.
