Recently I posted about possible heavy metals that we can ingest. There are several ways to reduce exposure to these metals. Cadmium, lead and mercury are ones to watch for. Cadmium is found in cigarettes, burned motor oil and some floor coverings. Lead is found in cigarette smoke, ceramic dishes and paint and pipes in some older homes. Mercury can be found in some fish and older dental fillings. A high fiber diet will help to eliminate these toxins from the body. Legumes such as navy beans, pinto beans, kidney, chickpeas and black beans are high fiber and should be added as often as possible to the diet. Apples, berries and citrus fruits are high in a fiber known as pectin. Add grapefruit, apples, and berries to the diet. Some other foods that can help to purge heavy metals from the are: sauerdraut, garlic, cilantro, kimchi, seaweed, turmeric and tomatoes. Since toxins seem to accumulate in fat it is important to reduce as much fatty and processed foods from the diet as is possible. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water which will help flush toxins from the body. If you are interested in reading the previous post on heavy metals you can find it here:

This discussion makes me feel positive. Many of the things you mention as being healthy are on my menu regularly. Neither of us smoke, and we do not use an oilburner to heat with. Car traffic may contribute somewhat, and I believe you can manage that by planting certain plants. I would have to look it up.

I had no idea so many heavy metals were getting into our system. I like this post. Lots of good things to eat to get rid of those heavy metals. Thanks for a very informative discussion.
