When I was a young girl we always had Thanksgiving at my grandparent's house. A leaf or two were put in the round dining table in the living room. There were the traditional dishes--dressing and mashed potatoes, home canned green beans with bacon for flavoring, grandma's delicious relish and jams, her carrot salad I could never hack with the raisins in it, homemade pies of pumpkin, apple and sometimes pecan if my mom had anything to do with it. Home made biscuits and bread with real butter.
The living room was small and had two couches and the chairs around the table. All would be full on that day. All the women would be coming in and out of the kitchen until we finally sat down to eat. There was grandma and grampa, mom and my Uncle Fred, his wife and sometimes her mom would be there. Myself and my two cousins. Now all those people are gone, just myself, my daughter and her son are here.
When my daughter was young and I was a single mom I would have mom and grandma over for Thanksgiving. I liked to do it all myself to sort of pay grandma back for all the work she did when I was young getting it all ready.
Tomorrow is my 67th birthday. It has been nearly sixty years since I recall beginning to enjoy those long ago dinner's at my grandparents but it is as clear to me now as if I were back there this very day. Good memories.

Sounds like a nice time. I don't have any siblings.

It seems those were the feasts that began my love affair with food. We always had an over abundance. For a few years as an adult I was the hostess, but we all go to my brother's because he cannot get away and he has space to do it all.
