Bargains at the thrift store (and other places)

I grew up on hand me downs and cheap clothes. I've never really seen a reason in buying the most expensive brands. Today I went to goodwill and found two sweaters. I paid $8.00 for them. I came home to find that one of the sweaters had the original tag it came with, it had probably never been worn. It originally cost $12.00. I paid about $3.50 for it. I then went by walmart to find a pair of leggings to go with one of the sweaters. Actually, I was looking for more than just that but that's what I ended up with. The leggings were $3.50. I came home, got on ebates and went to ebay through there (for cashback) and I found some leggings. I had a $5.00 gift card + received $2.00 off because of a deal on the store front. I can't recall how much I paid but it was a good deal. I feel like I paid around $18.00. I went on another site through ebates and found a nice.. well I forget what they are called, but it's a long sweater type jacket. It was around $10.00. I found something else there as well for $2.00. I'll get cash back on those purchases. I need to get a few more things, but I'll wait another day to buy them. I intend to go to goodwill again (probably a different one) and hopefully find something else I like there.

I love thrift stores. We must be on the same wavelength. I just wrote a discussion about shoes, lol.

I like you, have always shopped at thrift stores. I see no problem wearing used stuff, as long as its washed. Lol. Once I'm moved I need to go find a bookshelf at the thrift sore and some new warmer clothes. I wanted to get some of the sugar skull leggings but they didn't have any in my size. Maybe theyll have some now. I also want some plain colored ones. The goodwills here are overpriced, but they do have some nicer stuff than i remember from when i was little. I would rather go to caring and sharing and pay a dollar or fifty cents for clothes. lol. im super cheap. There are some jeans and shirts at walmart that I have been eyeing. I really need to find a nice outfit that isnt work clothes.

Yes, I swear that goodwill has gone up on their pricing compared to just a few years ago. I need to get back to Salvation Army and also see if there are any other clothing thrift places that I don't know anything about. I also don't have enough winter type clothing. I have two shelves that I bought for around $12.00 each, but these were from walmart or kmart and on a black friday sale.

@thislittlepennyearns I've not been to any of the ones in this county, but I used to frequent one in the next county over, before they closed it down.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I may wait till black friday. I don't know yet. It wil really depend on what my hours look like the next few weeks. Moving is expensive. The closest Salvation army that i know of is in Pensacola, which is two hours or so away.

Sounds like some smart shopping today! Great deals you got! We went to yard sales a lot when I was a kid. When I was a teen I had my mom take me to the thrift stores to do my school shopping. I loved the surprise of what I might find. My daughter and I are going to a new one this weekend.

I need to get to Salvation Army. I haven't been in a long time, and I am not sure I've ever been to the one I plan to go to soon.

Oooh, those are great purchases! I love to find things on clearance, at thrift stores, etc. Are you thinking of a cardigan (the long sweater jacket)?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Oooh, my mistake. Oh nice. I hope you can find the leggings! :) We go at times, the last time being before Halloween to find costume stuff.

No, I think it's called a duster actually. A member here who lives in the same city as me reminded me of another thrift store that I need to go to. I think I'll do that sometime in the near future and then write a post about what I found. If I can find leggings there, I'd be ecstatic.

My sister and I had a conversation about buying second-hand clothes last week. We both aren't that comfortable with it even though we sell our excellent and very good-condition used stuff on Poshmark. She said "we use towels and sheets in hotels, right? Other people have used them." That was good perspective. . . they've just been washed. I'm trying to open my mind.

@NJChicaa I had hand me down bathing suits as a child. I don't even want to think about that now.

There are some things I'll outright say no to. Like underwear. I've seen them in places like goodwill and I can't believe that people would even consider wearing them. If there is a suspicious stain I probably won't get it either.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Between my sister and I, we've sold used sneakers, workout leggings, and bathing suits. I find all 3 pretty nasty. . . especially the bathing suits.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I was trying to figure out which leggings were only $3.50. I should pop by there this week.

I've seen a lot of clothing items from some of the more expensive places at my local thrift shop. The items were either too small or I didn't like the design.

I love a bit of charity shop shopping. But I also like new things. Most of my new things are bought when the sales are on though, as I refuse to pay full price!

I almost always look at the off season sales when they go on. I've found a pair of jean leggings for $1.00 that way before.

I love thrift shops and of course yard sales. I like the money that I save and still get good items. I grew up like you did and I feel why should we pay the outrageous price at stores just like you do. I still look as good as the person who pays high dollar for things.

Sometimes stores will donate new clothes with tags on them to Goodwill and other thrift stores. I found new jeans with tags on them at lots of thrift stores. That is why I still shop there.
