On a positive Note, What New Thing Did You Learn Recently?

At my job I usually spend time teaching shoppers better ways to unload their groceries to be checked out and then show them extra spots they can hang lighter bags when running out of room. Many customers told me recently that they usually learn something new when I check them out.
As many here know I've been seeing a vascular specialist about a wound that is slow to heal in my foot below the ankle. Although the doctor has seen me quite a bit it's usually the PA'S (Physician Assistants) that have seen me during my appointments. One of the two I see brought up the possibility I might be eligible for one of many stem cell patches to see whether that is what is needed to close the wound. The only problem is they can't do it at that office but only at the wound clinic. So, sometime this past summer I knew I may need to switch over my care to that facility. I thought I'd still have one of the PA's take care of my wound.
My first appointment was last week and I was seen by four nurses. One checked my wound while the other went over my medical history and that of my immediate family Finally a nurse practitioner decided what should be done now about the wound.
I thought that the PA's had more training than the nurse practitioner but found that isn't so. Even though several doctors work certain days at the wound clinic they don't needed to monitor the nurse practitioner's work, where the PA's do needed their work seen by a physician.
I realize that those that live anywhere but the USA have a different type of medical personnel.
I may decide to stay with the nurse practitioner rather than switching back to one of the PA's that took care of me over the past year. And I'm wondering now whether it may have healed quicker had I gone to the wound clinic sooner or at least after the summer when the healing slowed down.
This is not meant to be a negative post and I really haven't a clue what topics fit that idea for those looking for positives, but this should be a win-win for me.
Also, I'm on part-time disability with both my jobs until this is healed up. I pay the insurance for that and will get most of my check after the first week off.
I should be able to mylot more until I go back to work although once I can walk normal I hope to get a little cleaning done in between elevating my feet and maybe some other much needed and put off tasks.
Maybe with more time off it will heal without the patches or they might have less expensive options available.

@MarshaMusselman I am sure that not being on your feet will help the wound to heal.

I think that possibly the watr and tear, figuratively on the rest of my body might be what halted the healing of the wound now that I'm off work and can rest more which means my foot, let and back pain will be less, then maybe the wound will make progress again. It's been stuck for about two months and got slightly larger this last month.
Possibly being off my feet will help even before they figure out which processes to apply

@LadyDuck that's what I'm hoping. Most that have this type of wound are younger and continue to work, but they also don't have the heal pain that's bothered me almost from the beginning. The heal pain isn't constant so I don't think it's a spur but I may get that checked out one day to be sure.
No that I'll be off my foot more there's no hurry although now I do have more time to do some of that too. I needed to get my toe nails trimmed soon so will ask then.

Hopefully the wound heals quickly. I know how difficult they can be....having helped with my father's care and my mother's care. The nurses at the wound clinic did wonderful work.m

I wasn't being seen that often in the past few months at the vein place that may partially be due to the time it takes for the body to respond after certain treatments, but it may have been nice if they'd discussed me moving over sooner. I brought it up because even though the wound itself doesn't hurt much throughout my day the rest of my foot and heal might. Then I compensate, incorrectly which in turn throws everything else out of whack.
Was your parents wounds because of diabetes or age or something else?

@MarshaMusselman my mother had bad varicose veins....as long as I remember they bothered her....age made it worse.
My father also had varicose veins and was what was considered pre-diabetic. He had very bad circulation.

@Morleyhunt do you remember at what approx age they began having wounds? Mine begana year ago although I did have to two there's higher up but they both healed within two months to time once I began having them bandaged correctly.
I began wearing support hose daily two years ago, but that didn't prevent me getting this one.

You are right that I do not understand the difference between nurse practitioner and PA. We go directly to physicians, some of whom may be PAs for all that we know. Nobody verifies their qualifications. But physicians do go wrong in diagnoses, with no professional liabilities. They are inexperienced even though they are overworked. Stem cells seem to be good way out. :) Hope your wound heals faster and better. :) Please keep us updated on this. :)

I don't know that we understand the difference between the NP's and the PA's any more than you do. I think my nephew is studying to be a nurse practitioner so I may ask him if he comes to the holiday meals.

So do I. Being off work for however long it takes should make a bigger difference too. I'm also going down for a Bible conference with family and I'm hoping to have a marked improvement while there.
I've had miracles in my health before but more when u was younger and not blaming myself for my predicament.

Thanks for the hugs and well wishes, Dianne. I'm hoping in a week or so it will again start to look better and smaller.
