TV Deaths that actually upset me. #1: Marissa Cooper "The OC"

I'm going to try a different kind of series. This one is about the television characters who died, that actually really upset me. We all get "into" tv shows that we like and end up liking a particular character or a few characters from a show, and then they go and kill them off for one reason or another. This list will cover those ones that upset me the most. Before you read any further, because this series will be dealing with characters that have passed during the course of the show (and many times main characters at that), if you haven't watched the whole show and don't want things to be spoiled for you, I would stop reading here. But if you don't care...go for it. I grew up watching a lot of different shows, being partially raised by my grandparents I probably know more about Gunsmoke, Touched by An Angel and Murder She Wrote than most people my age. That being said I also watched a lot of the "Tween and teen " dramas that were popular in the late ninties and 00's. One of these shows was The OC. If you aren't familiar with this show it starred Peter Gallagher as a lawyer with a soft spot for troubled youth and people in bad situations. It also starred Mischa Burton, Adam Brody, Rachel Blison and Ben McKenzie. The first two seasons of the show were really good. I actually own the first one on DVD and would like to own the rest. Anyway that's beside the point. Mischa Barton played Marissa Cooper on the show, the on again off again love interest of Ryan Atwood who was played by Ben McKenzie. In the episode in which Marissa and Ryan (along with Summer played by Blison and Seth played by Brody) graduate,, Ryan is taking Marissa to the airport when they get confronted by another car being drove by a rival of Ryan's and an ex boyfriend of Marissa's who is in a drunken rage because he can't have Marissa. When they finally get forced off the road the car flips several times. Ryan pulls Marissa from the fire aware of her injuries and as he is cradling in her arms the car explodes in a gasoline fueled fire. Ryan says he will go get help but Marissa knows there is no helping her and asks Ryan to stay. Marissa dies in Ryan's arms. It was a dramatic exit for a character that brought plenty of drama for the entire time on the show. I was really into this show when they killed of Marissa and can remember crying like a baby when it happened. Did you watch this show? Do you remember this happening?

@JohnRoberts I think I stopped really paying attention at that point. I really liked Anna who was in the first season and played a love interest for Seth. I know you like Summer better.

I've been trying to watch the series on Hulu, but haven't got this far yet (it's okay, I don't mind spoilers). I am going to have to keep watching now!

There's plenty of other stuff that happens on the show and a lot of it I don't remember. I didn't know it was on Hulu.

@thislittlepennyearns I am sure there is since it's a drama show....but I think I am just into season 2. It was on Hulu though, haven't checked if it still is (haven't watched it in a month or 2)

No, I didn't watch The OC, but there are some character deaths that hit me hard. I'll be looking forward to others on your list!

it got increasingly bad after this. I think there was one maybe two more seasons after this one. I hate when shows jump into the future, it always messes with the formula of the show, and they did that after this event on the show. Ruined it completely.
