I know people do this. But I don't know WHY!

tongue piercing

There are many things that human beings do and other human beings JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND! Things like … tongue piercing. I don't know why anybody would want to put something in their mouth that could possibly choke them to death, let alone interfere with generous wet sloppy passionate kisses that last for days. Yes. My mom pierced my ears. She did it when I was a baby. She didn't ask my permission. She also pierced my oldest daughter's ears and didn't ask my permission. I did not let her babysit any of my other daughters. I did not pierce my daughters' ears. I let them grow up and make the decision for themselves. I'm not that intolerant. I did some research and it seems tongue piercing started as a religious practice. So I'm not trying to be insulting or disrespectful. And I'm not that old. I don't mind some piercings. I mean I can tolerate them. Ears. Navels. Noses. But the TONGUE? Seriously! What is the appeal of tongue piercing?
Some piercings were designed to ward off demons, while others were intended to pay for the wearer's funeral.

A friend guy once told me that girls with tongue peircings have a reputation so I never got one. Besides I can't wear earrings any more because I would continuously get infections from them. Having an infection from a tongue peircing is probably way worse

Yes. Piercings have caused lots of infections. It's a real problem.

I think it is supposed to have certain sensual benefits. but pass on that for me. Leave it to the young folk.

I often wonder what inspires people to get some of the piercings they do. Is it boredom? Is it low self-esteem? If it is because they think it makes them more attractive, then someone along the line has deluded them. I cannot recall a single time I've ever noticed anything other than an earring in a pierced ear that added to someone's attractiveness. I have to be honest, a nose ring only makes me think of oxen.

@DWDavis They just look so gross. And what happens when you get a cold and your nose runs like a tap.

I think it's gross. I know if you take the piercing out, the tongue grows back the way it should.

@cmoneyspinner My youngest had his tongue pierced many years ago. Not anymore. His tongue is whole as it should be.

I think body piercings are awful and I don't like tattoos either but then I'm just about a dinosaur. I can't see the 'beauty' in any of these things. I don't mind ear-rings but maybe that's because I've grown up with lots of people having them. I do remember when men first started wearing them.

I remember when I first a man wearing an earring. The people I knew wrote it off casually. They're like "Eh! He's from another country." I accepted that explanation for many years until I saw 2 of my sons wearing ear rings. I had to rethink that explanation since they were born in the USA. It seems like it was a passing fling for them though. They are a little older now and I don't see them wearing them any more.

@cmoneyspinner These fashions come and go but tattoos are so permanent aren't they?

@JudyEv - No. Tattoos are no longer permanent. As painful as some of them are to draw on your body, there is an equally painful process to have them removed.

I don't really see the appeal in body piercings except the ears as earrings do seem to add to the beauty of a woman. I don' think it does the same for a man.

@cmoneyspinner I got my ears pierced because IO wanted to. I will never understand why someone would put an ear ring in their nose, on their tongue or in their belly.

LOL. Talk about imagined fears and phobias. It's a silly thing and I've never seen it happen. But I grew up in a rough neighborhood and people like to get into fights. That includes girls. I always had this fear of wearing a nose ring and some girl picking a fight with me and yanking it off my face! Scarring me for life! I saw Janet Jackson in a video and she had a nose ring. It was so distracting. For the entire video, the only thing I could think “Hope nobody yanks at that ring!” Mind you! People wear nose rings all the time. I'm sure the thought probably doesn't even cross their mind. It's just me.

@cmoneyspinner I can see someone hoping that if in a fight the other person does not fight dirty like that is put on a nose ring. That I believe would hurt badly. I just have both ears pierced once and not more holes than one on each side. I could not do that other stuff to my face or my body.

I guess people follow what's trending on fashion industries while others it's their culture like a friend of mine he is a Maasai I don't know if you people know Maasai people but they Pierce very huge holes in their ears and put very huge staff in their ears pinnae so there those are my reasons
