A Family Fish and Chips Night

My sister and her husband were in town this week and we planned to go out for a steak meal at a local restaurant, along with my sister-in-law. However, when we tried to make a reservation at a couple of our favourite places they were booked out with large workplace Christmas party groups. So, there was nothing for it, we decided to have an at home fish and chips take-away meal. We phoned through the order for five people, then my sister and I went to pick it up. The lady at my local take-away shop laughed, asking was I feeding other people tonight, as our usual order is much smaller. We had a fantastic family night, eating fish and chips, drinking wine and talking non-stop. The best part though, the meal cost each of us about a quarter of what we might have paid had we eaten and ordered wine at a restaurant.

Sometimes I love eating at home with friends more than eating out just for this reason.. Dinner gets extended, watching a movies or catching up on news is awesome.. Glad you had a good time.

Those in your photo is what we call a "Scaloppina alla MIlanese" breaded veal fried in butter, my favorite dish. (It shows that I was born in Milan, so I am a Milanese).

@MALUSE Here in Switzerland they use pork to make the schnitzel, in Milan we only use veal, same as in Austria (Wienerschnitzel). We are still discussing if Milan copied from them or vice versa, during the Austro-Hungarian empire.

@MALUSE Yes, I have a couple of books about this ridiculous problem. It's the same between Modena and Bologna about the tortellini "la disfida del tortellino" (the challenge of the tortellino), the rivalry started in 1325.

Occasionally I feel the need to have no meal preparation, and no dishes to do, so that makes going out an option.

Every time we eat out we find ourselves thinking we should have bought the best bit of steak we could find and cooked it at home. Fish and chips would come a close second. It is just so expensive to eat out nowadays.

I love to eat chips with vinegar. I don't eat fish because I am a vegan person. In my local town they have a chip shop that sells a portion of chips for £1.00. It is close to the pier and there is a row of benches outside. By the pier it can get rather cold and windy therefore around the corner is much better. Now it is winter they have reduced their timetable to the weekend only and they don't open if the weather is rainy. At home I cook chips and are never as nice at that chip shop.

It doesn't matter where you eat or how much you spend, just as long as you can enjoy time with family.

Yummy! I love fish and chips. Eating at home with friends is okay when you don't have to stay a lot in the kitchen. Ordering and saving money at the same time is wonderful.

The reason we were initially going out was that I didn't have time to cook that night.
