Apart from taking care of your cholesterol it will also strengthen your bones. The only condition is that you should eat it with the bones.
Eating sardines with their bones is not difficult. There is a recipe where you pressure cook them. They remain intact but they just melt in your mouth with bones and all.
Want to go for it?

I am not sure if they put a preservative in canned stuff. I have a recipe that has cooking oil, tomatoes, chilli and salt to taste. You just lay them neatly in the cooker and cook for 25 minutes. They do not disintegrate and can be eaten with bones.

@allknowing The sardines from Portugal have no preservatives. The one I like are are cooked in olive oil, no other ingredients.

@Shavkat I think I will talk about it here. Just clean the fish. In a pressure cooker add sufficient oil, chop tomatoes, chlli powder, salt to taste. Place sardine neatly and pressure cook them.
Gently remove from cooker. The sardines do not disintegrate. They just melt in your mouth.

I have eaten tinned sardines but I think cooked sardines would have better nutrition.

I enjoy eating sardines from time to time and buy them ready to eat in a can. I sometimes make a salad out of it by adding a can to lettuce and other vegetables.

@allknowing I think the company that sells them would agree with that.

What I would recommend is that you cook them at home using a pressure cooker.

I have had such recipies by first seperating the bones of the sardines from its body parts first. Then I help myself with as many peices of sardines as possible.

The main idea of pressure cooking sardines is so that the bones can be eaten. Bones of sardines are to be eaten for strengthening our own bones

If they are just cooked the normal way it will be difficult to eat those bones but this recipe where they are pressure cooked they just melt in your mouth.

We get it too in tins but I believe what you cook at home would definitely be better.
