When congressman Atty. Rodel Batocabe and his police escort were shot dead by gunmen last Dec. 22, everyone was shocked.
It was the first violence in the politics history of Daraga, Albay. This news was on national TV in the Philippines until now.
He was running for mayor in the town of Daraga, Albay. He is a very good , kind and loving lawyer. He is a representative of a partylist AKB , in Congress that is why he is a congressman.
He was shot from the back while distributing gift packs to senior citizens in a gathering in a barrio.
A bounty of 50 million pesos or US$1,000,000 was raised to find the killers and of course the mastermind.
Yesterday, a former army man, one of the personal army man of the acting mayor in Daraga, surrendered and admitted his part in the killing and pointed the others in the mayor’s personal army
He also alleged that the acting mayor as the mastermind, which was also what most of the people has in their mind . The said killing was orchestrated since August when the intent to run for mayor by Batocabe was made known.
Last night the said acting mayor ( he assumed the position of a mayor when the encumbent mayor died of illness), denied the allegation.
I hope justice will be served for Atty. Botacabe, because he could have been a very good candidate for mayor in the town we reside , so the town will improve.
In addition, if the allegation is true, it will serve as a warning for those who use guns and force to win in politics.

Yes this is indeed shocking for a small town to have such controversial assassination as I know Daraga to be very peaceful place and has no past history of electoral violence. I hope the incumbent Mayor could prove himself well when the investigation and court hearing begins because it seems all witnesses that is in custody of the Police are pointing only to him and that looks a strong evidence to disprove. I think he just destroyed his political career in doing so.

Indeed. The surrenderee said that the killing was even orchestrated since August when they came to know that he is running for mayor.

Yes, they will all rot in jail once proven to be true. Although, here there are cases here where politicians were priven to be guilty and they were put to jail. However, they were pardoned because of old age and sickness. Then they run in politics again and won.

@SIMPLY There should be measures to stop them from running in politics again.

Nothing new, I guess the acting mayor was desperate because he was so popular. Get this acting mayor in jail!

But others are saying the encumbent congressman has also a motive. It is said the Atty. Batocabe has uncovered an anomaly by the congressman in the International airport that is being constructed since many year ago. The said congressman is currently on vacatio somewhere.

It is a sad incident.
I think the old man was getting shock when the congress man is being killed just in front of them.
Kind man never last longer in this world. Probably it is a true statement.
Hope the gunman will be reveal and get necessary punishment.

Hearing all the news about this in politics, one would wonder why many still want to run for a political position.
It also gives the impression that killing is getting easy to do for some who have money to pay a gunman to kill anyone they hate.
