Do You Follow Recipes?

I have to admit that I do unless except in some instances when I can reduce the sugar. Usually no one notices and I like the fact that I'm cutting back in an area that we don't need the extra anyway. My husband never even uses a recipe! He simply starts pulling things out of the cupboard and comes up with amazing dishes!! I couldn't do that if my life depended on it lol! Do you follow a recipe or can you just wing it like my husband seems to prefer to do!!

It depends. If it is something new I pretty much do until I see how it turns out. Then I wing it.

@CarolDM Because of my daughters demand for more chocolate chips in our cookies... guess who is getting a huge bag for Christmas next year. If she wants more chocolate chips, they are coming out of her bag lol!

I can but it depends on what it is. I am not good at winging it on confectionaries. I am not good at baking period. However I have thrown together foods before and come up with something delicious. I made a sort of chicken and vegetable stir fry once and my family loved it. I made a celery soup out of just a few things we had in the kitchen once. First time I ever made celery soup and it was good. I've not tried since, but I probably couldn't make it again if I did.

@Hate2Iron Lucky You. I am the only one in the house that cooks. I've even asked one family member to "watch the meat" when I had to go to the bathroom. I come back and it's a good thing it wasn't burnt because that is exactly what he did. Didn't even stir it or anything.

@ScribbledAdNauseum LOL... it drives me crazy to turn my kitchen over to other family members!

Baking is pretty much all I do. Too many other people in the house who like to cook!

I have about a handful of recipes that I will often use... and then the recipe is marked up like crazy so I know who liked it, who thought it was too salty etc...

There are some recipes that I follow, or the result will not be perfect. Some I remove some ingredients or cut on something I feel it's not healthy.

If I can cut down on the butter and the sugar... it usually works out just fine!! Okay, it does affect the flavor, but I would rather go with a bit heathier in exchange!!

@Hate2Iron I always cut down on fats where I can and I also cut sugar, the taste is even better with less sugar.

I do both - depends on my mood and what I have on hand - oh and how much time I have! My husband is better at winging it too.

Most of the time I follow the recipe, but I get in trouble when I get the urge to be creative.

I only follow recipes if I have to bake. My daughter-in-law can bake without measuring. Glad to hear you are cutting back on sugar. It's so bad for our health in so many ways. I don't have any sugar in the house.

Vince does most of the cooking and he, too, wings it whereas I have to follow a recipe and even then the results can be dicey. I often cut down on sugar in cakes and biscuits too and no-one notices.

I often do not follow the recipes. I wish I had a husband who would cook me.
