Oh Well, I Cancelled Today's Exercise Plans as Ground is Quite Icy. A Shorter Post

I was heading out a little bit ago to start the car and went onto the front porch to see whether it was safe to walk down the ramp. Right away I realized that the porch itself had a thin layer of ice on top and while I have salt I can put down that would take a while to melt and add more, so I went out the back door instead. After taking two steps onto the driveway with the intention to start my car, I realized that was also icy.
I went back inside and called my friend to cancel our walk and exercise at Planet Fitness. I can salt around my house, but there's no guarantee that the people at PF would thoroughly salt the parking lot and I don't need to fall twice in a few weeks time. What I should do instead is get up from my computer desk and chair and walk around the house inside to get more steps in. Or, like my friend will do find one show that's on for an hour or thereabouts and walk in place while that show is on. I doubt I'll do that, but we'll see.
It's cloudy today and not too cold, but I don't think the ice will melt very fast. Good thing we don't have any appointments planned.
To get our minds off winter I'm posting a picture I took when visiting Hawaii in 2005 with my family. I used the image do make a puzzle. My mom's head is in the foreground on the lower left and her ex-boyfriend right above hers. My husband is standing on both his feet, (he now has a prosthetic on one) even though you can't see his legs and my sister from Detroit is in front of him on a lawnchair. My brother from AZ is barely there on the top left. (In this puzzle view he's too blurred to see).

@MarshaMusselman The next week will be very cold, but if does not rain we should be safe.

@LadyDuck I think it will be too cold to rain. Someone asked my why I was going back to work in the coolest day this far, but this is cold season and it's time.

For the second day in a row the schools are closed because of the ice. I guess a salt truck went through on our little street this morning or so my husband thinks. It's still slow driving even then until it helps with traction more. We aren't leaving the house today if we can help it. It will take a while to get into our cars covered with ice to warm them so some of it melts. We both have early appointments tomorrow morning.
I just went out and put salt down around the cars and on the ramp so we won't fall when warming our cars later. It's under thirty today although at least the sun is shining. I'm hopeful that will help the salt work faster to melt some of the ice in the walkways.

More ice is headed our way after getting the possibility of 3-5 more inches of snow starting tonight into tomorrow. If ice comes after snow, normally that's better than the ice before the snow, but I've seen it bad either way before.
I went to PF early today since now that I'm working I need to fit it in differently. I stayed on the treadmill the whole time in the hopes that I will go back one to two extra days to use the weights.
I was hoping we could get some windows done tomorrow since it's supposed to be just under forty, but that was before i realized it's warming up just so we can get dumped on by another weather system. We may just need to bundle up and work in colder weather this month as Thurs may be the warmest day until Feb at a high of 28.

@just4him it wasn't too cold last week when we did the two jobs. I was going to take my employee this week to looking at a new, for him, cleaning job but with the colder temps I'm not sure that will work out.
I plowed out driveway this morning and it wasn't bad at Allie out there even though it was -8 degrees. I stayed out there for an hour. I thought I'd need to come I in to warm up every fifteen minutes so that worked out well.
My daughter is leaving soon and I will head back out to move our cars and do under them and then I'll be done until the next snowfall.

@MarshaMusselman Be safe as you work in those temps.

I began putting salt down yesterday and worked on it again this morning. Later, after lunch I went back outside with more salt. I also got the deicer spray I got last year to spray on the doors and windshields of two cars and after that melted some I went out again to start both cars to let them warm up. I wanted to move my car over so my daughter can have her spot back as both my husband and I have appointments early in the morning.
Maybe I'll prepare a bag of salt to take with me in case areas where I need to walk aren't as free of ice as I'd prefer and I can salt it before trodding on areas that are questionable.
Did you get any of the ice there in Canada yesterday or today? I guess it's going to get colder each day, but by then hopefully all the ice will be gone. Even the grass is icier than I've ever seen it.

That's my plan, and if it gets colder it may not be much better tomorrow. At least for the roads they'll have those salted. My daughter didn't seem to have any problems driving today, but if she falls it's easier for her to get up and keep going. Not that I want her falling any more than I want to fall.

I'm deathly afraid of slipping and falling on ice.
Love the idea of making a photo into a puzzle

I could get any photo made into a real, hands on puzzle, but that would cost money. This way of doing it is free.

It is not easy to drive if the road is also full of snow.

True, although diving on snow is far better than driving on ice which is what we have now. I posted a picture of what it looked like on the road today and what it was like near the cars once it for dark. Not fun at all.
I'll wait to try to clear more ice away until morning after it gets light again.

I thought I already replied to your response. I fell on ice not last firday but the one before that and even though I didn't get any concussion, I'd rather not see if it works that well a second time assuming I'd fall again.
I've been putting salt out a little at a time, so when I need to walk further away what I already put down should have melted the ice. I should try to do my whole ramp. I'm surprised the mail person made it up the ramp without slipping, but maybe he has cleats like Deborah.
