Window Shopping

United States

I've been on etsy today, just looking around. Mostly I want to see what there is to buy. I'll put in something off the top of my head and see what comes up and then I'll go over to the side and specify the State. I usually like to buy things from within my region if not my State. Not only because it gets here faster (and thus fresher depending on the item) but because I feel like it supports a sense of community. I love Etsy for all of the artisans and crafter's who do what they do with love and commitment. I've only ever had one problem with an etsy seller and it wasn't an overall big problem. Do you ever window shop?

@arthurchappell Yes, everything I really want is more expensive than I am willing to pay. Even if it isn't overly expensive.

I am tight with my money in some ways, and not enough in other ways. I probably spend too much on things I don't need and yet I don't spend enough on things I do need. Window shopping is one of the ways I "save" because I rarely spend when I window shop.

I have window shopped for clothes. I don't buy very many new items clothing wise. I have my favorite and stick to those. I use charity shops for buying clothes for the most part.

Let's see if this ends up being a double posting. I'm having some human error problems on my end and closed the whole browser out! I don't spend a lot on clothes but I like to window shop.

@playertwo ???? Do you know what "window shopping" means? You go from store to store looking at the windows without buying. I would call the police if someone could thing that this is loitering.

I find that I can never just window shop at a supermarket. I usually end up buying something that I didn't necessarily need.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It happens to me often. There are always sales of things I don“t need.

@marguicha I convince myself I need things or that I'll prepare things and never do. I try to be better about it, but sometimes I can't help but get things I don't need. I bought a blanket and pillow when I have plenty of them here.

I haven't been in ebay or etsy in a long while. I like to go on and see what others are selling and think I'll go check those two out in a few minutes. I get a kick out of vat19.com. I do like to buy local and visit the craft and small business fairs.

I've never heard of Vat19.com. I've heard of things like redbuble and oh now I can't think of it, it just slipped my mind..

@noni1959 Oh yes, I visited the site after I asked. It reminded me of TFAW (Things From Out Of This World) and Firebox (I think that's the name, but the equivalent of TFAW pretty much, but from Britain).

I love it. I will also go to goodwill or places like it, not always to get anything but just to see what is there to get. I've found some good and salvageable things that way.

@hillhjill Yes, I think only collectors would use the website for goodwill. At one time I wanted to collect Avon's ruby red collection and shopgoodwill.com had some. However, I wasn't willing to spend that much for something I could see in person. Goodwill has gotten to where they don't check the quality of what they put out on the shelf.

@Courage7 Are you talking about a coat made out of granny squares? I'm not going to lie, I've wanted to buy some period clothing from there before but it is so expensive and I don't know my proper measurements. Nothing too constricting, just cloaks really and pretty cloak pins. If I could sew.. but I can't so oh well I reckon. Then there are a few lotions that I like but I've figure out how to make them myself and where the sellers are buying the scents.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes it is so hard to resist. What I always want to buy is the afghan coats. Much too expensive. I had one when I was a young woman and had it stolen.

I don't use amazon as much as I once did. I've only used it recently because I was given a gift card for Christmas. I also play a dice game and they pay out via items delivered from amazon.

Sometimes I get ideas for future purchases. I was on Etsy recently. I never bought anything there but I saw a very affordable jar of persimmon jelly on there which made me think,,I better start shopping there for other things!

I've been looking at things like that too. I told mylot last month about how I bought my bestie two jars of barbecue sauce from there. She sent me a picture of the jar nearly empty. I said "So that was good then?" I think I'll buy it for myself.

Rarely, and usually only when I happen to pass real windows. I don't have time for that sort of thing online so I onl;y look if I am actually lookiing for something specific.

I am a quick shopper when I know that I am after. Window shopping is really the only time when I can browse to see what else is out there that I didn't know about.

Yes, I've gotten away from using amazon for the most part. I use amazon for their t.v. content but that's about it. I recently spent a gift card I received there. Now I either buy whatever I need locally or use other websites.

@Happy2BeMe I've never bid on anything, I just find things at good prices from the "buy it now" option. Well, I think I might have bid on something ages ago... I don't remember what it was though.

I wish her the best of luck. You might recommend that she gets some business cards made up with her shop name. Some she will put in with the purchases people make, and others she needs to place in restaurants, grocery stores, libraries and anywhere else that might let her leave them. Post offices and recreational centers are another good place to place them.
