Power problems today

Our power has been off most of the day so I haven’t been on here much at all. We are having a rough day weather-wise with a lot of wind and some showers. It’s also colder than what we’re used to for this time of year. There isn’t much you can do but wait for the power to come back on. My laptop runs on battery but I couldn’t access the internet as there is no signal. Vince has now hooked up the generator. When we had the house built we made it so we can hook a generator into a plug on the wall and the house will operate almost as though we are on mains power. It gives us lights and more importantly, runs the pump which supplies water to the kitchen and bathrooms. So we’re back on line but I’m not sure for how long. When the weather gets rough, the power, and therefore the internet, isn’t very reliable. Photo of a power pole in Nepal which I've put up before.

It's never a pleasant experience when power is off. This is a major issue when your living in a city, everything needs power. So far we are ok, the last time we had power outages a few months ago. Take care, I hope your power stays on this time j.

The generator only ran for an hour or so then ran out of petrol. When Vince went to get more the service stations weren't able to pump fuel so he couldn't get any. But the power is on again now.

@Kasjnak Solar power is popular here too. Some are selling excess power back to the grid but we missed out on the chance to do that.

@JudyEv that's why I want some solar panels and a capacitor to store the energy for when it's needed. But not now, I still live in an apartment. Making some plans for my retirement, 15 years from now . Glad the power is back on, take care .

Power problem in winter is not that here. But in summer you can expect power failure at any time.

If we get a windy or stormy day there are often trees that come down on power lines or whatever.

@florelway We don't have too many hydro-electric schemes in Australia.

The same happens in our area because we are powered by hydro power so if water level is low distribution of power is affected.

Good luck Judy, I hope the power will come back soon. What a mess the power poles in Nepal.

@JudyEv I am glad that everything returned to normal, we have gas for cooking, but I am concerned about the freezers should the power go off.

@LadyDuck It's been off again most of the morning. And now the generator is playing up but in a way that is good because they will now both (we have two) get properly overhauled. It's easy to become complacent when nothing goes wrong.

It came back on at about 6pm. We were starting to cook dinner while we could still see but then the fridge started humming and everything returned to normal.

Loss of power is so frustrating. Glad you have the generator as a backup. We had one installed and our son recently had a state or the art one installed. He’s having a 2 1/2 hour lesson on how to use it today, although he got it to run himself just in case he lost power during a storm over the weekend. The owner talked him through it. Hope your power returns soon.

It was really foolish to run out of petrol for ours. And of course being so much of the district was without power, we couldn't get any. But it came back on about 6 pm.

True but it ran out of fuel didn't it? We went from about 10am to 6pm but hopefully it will stay on now. The weather has cleared up a lot now, thank goodness.

@Lucky15 The power has been off - and on - again and we've discovered the generator has a fault - which is good really as now it will be fixed properly.

Indeed power outages, black outs are nightmares to the modern netizens. Everyone just depends on power to continue doing things.

@jvicentevalera It's been off again today for much of the time. I grew up on a farm and we didn't have electricity then we had what we called a 'lighting plant' which gave 32 volt power. At that time you could buy 32v appliances. It is possible to live without power you know.

@JudyEv Oh that is good news. I detest when I don't have power. Oh God I could never imagine a life without it. I dare to say that there are places in the world where people still live without power :(

It is a great thing that you at least have a generator for the important things like water. Hope the weather calms down so that the electric company can fix the wires.

A little more on bearing the situation. We may dislike it but if it's for safety to everyone, we need to hold a little more of our patience. It's just great that you have your own power generator there as it is really difficult to function on the above things you mentioned.

Why you do it through your laptop? Switch it on to your mobile. I used my mobile only. Very easy to carry. Even you can use your power bank. Why there's lot of power problem?

I don't have a mobile. And reception isn't very good where we live either. The windy weather has caused the power problems.
