Diary 21st To 24th January 2019

Diary Monday 21st January 2019 I wanted to go out taking photos today but waking up to heavy fog and severe frost told me it wasn’t going to happen. I wrote to some pubs that don’t have pub signs asking why they don’t get them. Other than that it was a very quiet day. Diary Tuesday 22nd January 2019 The community food service today, getting some near-sell by date food bags and a chance to meet with friends as well. It started snowing out, the first snow to fall this Winter. I started trying to contact the buffet restaurant to book a table at for my birthday meal for February 9th only to hit engaged signals, have no one answering the phone and even getting fax machines. This would still be happening by Thursday and I haven’t got the number wrong. Invited to come in for some voluntary work at the university on Thursday. Diary Wednesday 23rd January 2019 More freezing conditions and light snow so I stayed in, doing my job searching online. Diary Thursday 24th January 2019 A busy day today. I went to the university to help prepare classes for social work students over the next few months, and I will be involved in many of the lessons. A friend there gave me an invitation to her wedding in June which I hope to attend. Tim Martin, the founder and head of the expansive Wetherspoon pub chain was giving a public talk at one of his pubs in my home city today so I went along. He is very much for a hard Brexit for the UK regarding Europe, for which he was heckled a lot during his speech. Though I disagree with him (I hope for a new referendum and vote to stay in Europe) he was very interesting and he thanked me for coming along to his presentation. As the week is leading up to Burns Night, (the 25th January) the annual Scottish celebration of the work of pot Robert Burns, the pub was selling Haggis burgers, cooked in whisky. I was happy to have one before I left the bar. Youtube Robert Burns – To A Mouse Arthur Chappell

Today is warmer, but we also had two freezing days this week. Today is sunny, we expect rain for Sunday, but still no snow, very strange. Haggis burgers sound interesting, did you try it?

I really love Burns' poetry. I once visited a pub and inn in Scotland where Burns stayed at times and was a regular in the inn.

I've just put up a post about a native 'mouse' which was climbing up the flyscreen on our window.

If the pubs want a sign you could suggest a good one for them. Your week sounds quite a busy and varied one. Hope you get to book your table. Are you inviting friends?

I don't have any say in pub sign creation - I just observe those already in use
