Trump fans didn't get a wall but they did get a CAVE!

After 34 days of the government being shut down (the longest ever), Donald Trump announced today that he had reached a "deal" to re-open the government. Sounds good, right? Wrong. What he "got" was the exact same thing that was agreed upon BEFORE the shutdown--i.e. ZERO dollars for his stupid vanity wall. Not a single thing was changed. This was the same deal that was supposed to go into effect before Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh made fun of him and goaded him into refusing to sign a bill that he promised to sign and that had been passed by both the House and the Senate. So the furloughed government workers went through all of that financial hardship and stress for NOTHING! Going to food pantries, waiting for free hot meals, missing rent/mortgage payments, having credit scores adversely affected. . . and nothing was accomplished that wouldn't have been back in December. There were TSA agents calling out causing massive lines and backups at security gates in major backups which pissed off travelers and the air traffic controllers so stressed that they started calling out which caused LaGuardia to shut down today and other major airports to temporarily block flights. Also during this debacle, Trump's approval rate dropped and his disapproval rate rose 8% to 58%. The majority of Americans blamed Trump and Republicans for the shutdown and I think it was 72% of Americans said that they did not support the idea of a wall. Republican Senators recently met with VP Pence and let him have it telling him that the shutdown needed to end soon. To get their point across, some of them voted for the Democrat bill to re-open the government which showed that the GOP solidarity behind Trump was cracking. Take all of that together (particularly the closure of the airports today) and Trump had no choice but to CAVE. Of course, being the bluffer and liar that he is, he claimed that he made a deal but the reality is that he got exactly what he was offered over a month ago. He wreaked havoc on 800,000 employees and their families for absolutely nothing and has made himself look like even more of a fool in the process.
President Donald Trump had made one thing very clear on each day of this 35-day government shutdown: He wouldn't agree to a compromise deal to re-open the government unless it contained money allocated for the construction of his border wall.

His fans believe anything he says. I don't know if they are brainwashed or really that dumb. Even FOX News was saying today "It looks like Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats won this one." You KNOW it's bad when FOX News is admitting that!

He needs to go. It is shocking to see how he can blatantly disregard the lives of so many.

I am too. It was horrible that he was holding their livelihoods hostage for something that most of America doesn't want and that would be totally ineffective anyway.

Although I feel so bad for those directly affected by the shut down, if anything comes out of this, I hope more people opened their eyes to what this President is - which "we" knew already.

@spiderdust Trump has lost his leverage. His poll numbers are in the tank. The GOP solidarity is fractured because Senators are realizing their constituents are pissed off. I really don't think there will be another closure.

@NJChicaa I'm a little concerned they won't come to a consensus by the end of the 3 weeks, and this will happen all over again... only with much angrier people.

unfortunately some people won't get back pay because they weren't considered essential and didn't have to go to work. They lost a month of wages.

Not hardly a cave. He basically said look, we are opening the government back up like you (the democrats) wanted and that you (the democrats) said what was necessary to come to the table and talk about the wall. We will see if the democrats actually stick to their word, but I say it is unlikely. He ALSO said, whether or not the democrats come to the table the wall WILL be built. It is either come to the table and talk, or we will declare an emergency and build the wall out of the $7 billion we have found from other funds to do it. Trump is not caving. He is saying whatever you (the democrats) decide, the wall is being built. So you can either come to the table and layout how you want to go about it and have a say, OR we just do we want and get it done without your input, without your help, and without the possibility of including any other packages in a deal you might want...like DACA or something. By the way, why are you resorting to an old liberal tactic of reversing the approval numbers? Trump's approval ratings are then 42%, which is not bad considering Obama's approval ratings 3 years in were 40%, so if you wanted to use YOUR tactic at the same time in Obama's presidency as Trump's, 60% disapproved of Obama's job. So...two can play that game.

Those are the numbers I saw reported. I didn’t randomly come up with them.

@NJChicaa No, no, no. I am NOT disputing your numbers. I am simply pointing out how you SLANTED the numbers. When people talk about approval ratings they generally refer to the percentage of those who approve. NOT the number of those who don't. They do this to make something seem worse than it is. 58% disapprove sounds way worse than 42% approve, when WE ALL KNOW that a president generally stays within these kinds of numbers. And like I said, at the same time in Obama's presidency HIS approval ratings were 40%. If I wanted to make that sound horrible I'd turn it around and say (like you did) 60% disapproved. Which is true. But NOT really the story.
