Of free films and kangaroos

Last night we went to see a free film put on by our shire council as part of the Australia Day festivities. The film, Three Summers, was set in Fairbridge where we go every year to a music festival. It was centred round just such a music festival and was a lot of fun.
We could recognise so much not just about the place but about the folk in the film – the voluble compere who never stopped smiling and introduced the acts, the musicians, some of whom were so far up themselves it wasn’t funny, the Morris dancers with their bells and whistles, the security lady who had everyone bluffed and the two couples who came each year to the festival and had a great time eating and drinking but didn’t actually get to see much music.
We could relate to all of these and more and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. There were some strong messages too especially about racism, land rights and refugees.
And if you’re wondering what this has to do with the photo, the answer is nothing. But about a week ago I saw a joey kangaroo with its face splotched with white. I was too far away to get a good photo and it wouldn’t face me but tonight the same joey is feeding out on the grass and looking towards the house so we both able to get some better shots. Kangaroos sometimes have a white star or other markings but I’ve never seen one quite like this. It looks like one of those motor-bike helmets which is painted to look like a skull.

After reading a story about a lady using the toilet and a python biting her I don't think I will be visiting Australia any time soon!

Why do kangaroos have that white spots on the face? It looks like a reflector in the dark.

I don't know why they have this. I guess it's just like some cats and dogs having unusual markings.

It is very nice to go to a local event. Along with the show it is also the ambience

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening out. The kangaroo is very pretty. I have never seen one like that better.

I think you've managed two discussions in one. Films that cover familiar territory like that are fun, they almost feel like a home movie.
I'm disappointed that my phone is refusing to let me zoom in on the joey.

@SophiaMorros I had to go back and find the colloquialisms.
I don't always realise I'm putting them in although I'm more aware of them than I once was.

@JudyEv I almost got lost in the colloquialisms in your paragraph describing the contents of the film. It never ceases to amaze me how different the English language can be.

I was going to say I never saw a roo with a face like that.

You don't often see them with white markings. I've put one photo on TR's response and this doe has a couple of spots.

:D
