What a Waste!!

As you may know, I ran an animal shelter called New Leash on Life Fund at my property for many years and Walmart helped us with dog and cat food by saving the torn and ripped bags.
Since I was physically unable to continue on as a Director and 24/7 caretaker, the President moved everything over to her 6 acres of land. We were just notified by Walmart that as of April 5th, there would no longer be the donations of the food for the animals. Corporate has decided to take it all back to the factory and then to the nearest dumpsters.
Well ain't that just duckie!!!! So I got on the phone with Family Dollar, Dollar General, Freds, Tractor Supply, Brookshire's for help; and all of them do the same thing. Dumpster!!!!! What a shameful waste; kinda like what all the restaurants do in the US with food at the end of the night instead of taking it to the homeless.
I got on line and found a few food pantry assistance programs for animals and I hope they can help us. And the worst part of all this mess is that our animal shelter is the only one in the entire county but the city and county refuse to grant yearly money to us but still want us to take care of the stray population along with spays and neuters, vet visits, etc. They don't mind though spending $25,000 every year for the one-day fireworks on the 4th of July or the money to dazzle up the main part of town at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I am very angry at the whole situation.

@WorDazza Exactly but then again when do huge corporations every consider that!! They just raise their prices to counteract their stupidity.

Why dump perfectly good pet food when you desperately need it? I don't understand why they do that. That is a waste and it is not right.
Lots of places do it though. My friend worked in a mall and they took good clothes and ripped them and threw them in the dumpster. They damaged food items and home goods also. They could have donated them to thrift stores or the homeless but they would rather they end up in the landfill.

@nanette64 There are so many people in such desperate need of things that it is bad that perfectly good stuff is trashed and dumped.

I could understand if the bags got contaminated or infiltrated by bugs or something, but seriously @Happy2BeMe ?

@nanette64 doesn't make sense. They would rather throw it out then put it to good use. Makes no sense.

@amitkokiladitya A lot of it could be stopped too if people would spay and neuter their animals and not get one unless they were really ready to care for one.

And they wonder why so many animals are euthanized every year @amitkokiladitya . Shelters find it hard to keep up with the food bills.

Yup, I know. That means I'll have to spend more money on my critters as well @jaboUK since I won't be getting any more help from the shelter.

Our president had to go back to work full time as a prison guard so her salary will be buying food. Her husband who owns a lawn service and now takes care of the dogs; all his salary mowing lawns will be doing the same @DianneN .

It's really wasteful to dump the damaged animal food containers in dumpsters! They have profit in minds instead of giving it to animal shelters!

I know when I was full time doing it @DocAndersen , it was 24/7. Feeding, scooping the kennels, giving meds, walking them, playing with them, training them, going out in the middle of the night during a thunder storm (outmaneuvering lightning bolts) to calm the dogs down. And at one time we had 106 dogs.

You are right to be angry but, infortunately, animals are low on many 'to-do' lists
