Trying out aloe vera gel on my hair

Anytime I skip a shower (a few times a year) I get dandruff the next few days. I don’t know what causes it since I know lots of people do not wash their hair every night.
I can’t skip showering as my hair is so greasy the next day.
I saw two people here at mylot mention a few days ago that aloe vera is good for hair and dandruff.
I have this bottle of aloe Vera gel I got to test out for free a few years ago. I have only used it twice and figured I’d give it a try on my scalp.
After my shower I massaged it into my scalp and then brushed it my hair. Hopefully it looks okay after it dries.
Has anyone else ever used aloe vera gel on their hair?

If I have dandruff it's not bad, but my husband has it all the time. When my kids had cradle cap which was similar to dandruff I got a product that is now over the counter for it. At present, I can't recall the name, but when I do I'll come back to let you know. It isn't cheap, it's about fifteen dollars for a bottle of it, but it worked for the cradle cap and my husbands dandruff back then. The nice thing about it is it seems to heal one's scalp from further issues. When I used it on my kids, I used it a few times per week, and then weekly and then monthly and then here and there as it wasn't needed often by then.
If you want to still use the aloe it might be possible to find some made specifically for using in one's hair. You can also add an after to this post on what how it turned out once it dried.

@marshamusselman I rarely get dandruff only a few times a year when I skip a shower it seems to cause it. It’s never too bad but I don’t ever want to see any you know.
When my kids were little they each got cradle cap one time and not bad thankfully. When it was wet I picked it off as it didn’t come back. The first time I experienced it was when my daughter was a baby and my mom took an old toothbrush that was cleaned and gently brushed it off her scalp. I couldn’t do it I was dry heaving lol.
A member here has trouble with dandruff and does spent about $15 on a bottle of whatever she uses. I’d love to hear what it is you used so I can pass along the information to her in case it’s something different that will help.

@shaggin I took a few days off overall from mylotting and forgot to check when I was there. I'll try again when I head back on Friday assuming I can walk better. This storm is playing havoc with my knee. Mostly inflammation, but more than I've ever had previously.

@Courtlynn I rarely use anything on my hair either! I don't like using chemicals so I thought the aloe vera is perfect as it's natural. I didn't expect it to work but I don't see any dandruff today.
Wow $15 for shampoo is so high priced
. Your hair being thick and long would need a lot of it too compared to short thin hair so I imagine you go through it quite fast.
Do you shower each night and wash your hair? It seems the only time I get dandruff is if I skip a night showering which seems so weird to me!

@Courtlynn I have heard that too. Mine gets so greasy by day 2 though and then I get dandruff. It makes absolutely no sense to me why my hair getting oily causes dandruff
I read online a bit ago that aloe vera is good for hair loss so hmm even if it doesn't help that much with dandruff maybe it will make my hair a little thicker like it was as a teen.

@shaggin im glad it seems to be working then. Yay.
$15 (or maybe its $12) is just for the smallest bottle. And all 3 of us use it when we have it. So goes fast and would even if my hair wasnt so long and thick. Unfortunately.
I shower every other day, at least. But only wash my hair 1-2 times a week like been told by hair salons. As washing too much isnt good for it.

@noni1959 the dandruff looks better I mean it’s not totally gone but a significant decrease to where a few specks a day I see in my hair.
It didn’t make it greasy or weigh it down thankfully. I read it’s good for hair loss and my hair has gotten so thin since high school so I decided I’ll just keep using it each night until it’s empty. If it help awesome if not it won’t be sitting around unused taking up space anymore.

@nela13 I have used dry shampoo a few times but would rather just wash it every night. I don't know if the dry shampoo would cut down on the dandruff though maybe I should try it the next time I skip a shower. Hopefully it won't be any time soon.

@nela13 We shed a certain amount of hairs each day but I don't brush my hair very often so it seems like it doesn't fall as much until I brush it. I am trying to brush my after every shower like I used to do over a year ago. In my son's health book it said to brush it daily for the scalp oils to coat the strand of hair and help keep it healthy.

@DianneN I rarely get dandruff only if I skip a shower which isn't very often. Then I do use head and shoulders. When I used it regularly in the past it seemed to damage my hair so I prefer not to use it. I was thinking if aloe vera helps then it would be much healthier. I was looking online and it shows aloe vera being used to help with hair loss. My hair has gotten much thinner after my teen years so maybe the aloe vera will help. Its been sitting in my cupboard not getting any use so I might as well use it up. It can't really hurt to try it you know.

@Happy2BeMe it didn't make my hair greasy or anything. The dandruff did seem better today I don't see much but if I look hard enough I can still see some now. At least it cut down on most of it.

@CarolDM that's neat I have never seen any shampoos with aloe in it. I read online earlier it's good fo hair loss. My hair is so thin maybe the aloe will help it thicken up slightly. It used to be nice and thick and healthy when I was a teen.

@Sheali it is to cold here to have it growing outside unfortunately. I have a plant inside but it is all falling over instead of growing up right as there isn't enough sunlight that comes into my home. Do you use it on your hair or for other things?

I haven't but I ordered some Hemp oil, I am hoping it will help with sleep, dry skin and maybe I might use it as a conditioner too..as I think it is good for that as well.

@maezee I have tried two different dry shampoos. I gave away the one as it did nothing. The one I kept and use once in awhile smells great but it is only okay at getting rid of the greasy look. My hair isn't straight so I can't brush through my hair when it is dry which is what your supposed to do with the dry shampoo. So I just spray it on the greasy looking parts and try to just barely comb through the spot with my fingers. Doesn't work that well so I wouldn't bother to buy it but I got it for free to test it for free luckily so it wasn't a waste of money.

Aloe vera has many health properties and hair health is one of them. I have plants but am too lazy to use the gel.

@allknowing I have aloe plants too. The one day an arm broke off so I squeezed it into a little container and used the aloe liquid on my face the next few days. I figured it couldnt hurt right.
