Just be yourself

How often we give this simple advise 'just be yourself' to others. I often find myself telling first time speakers and those who go for interviews 'just be yourself'. However, i guess it is the hardest thing to do today. I think people find it easier to be like their favorite stars /idols than themselves. Somehow they fail to realize that it to be yourself is to be unique. Uniqueness is something we all admire and yet it is the simplest thing. Every leaf is unique in its own way, every cat's meow is unique, every voice is unique. Yet our personal uniqueness seems weird to us that we want to be clones of others. Have you noticed this among younger people? Have you been the same way when you were younger?

I think when were young were more impressionable. We may emulate others we admire, or think are cooler than us. With maturity comes confidence and acceptance of yourself.

@dgobucks226 Yes, that is right but do you think that there are some who carry it beyond those impressionable years into the early adulthood and perhaps even later?

@sofssu Oh sure, some will never grow up and mature with age.

I think I have always been myself. I am a free spirit and I hate copying others.

@LadyDuck It is wonderful to be ourselves. It somehow hampers our growth when we imitate others.

@sofssu This is possible. I cannot understand the modern figure of the "influencer", it sounds so stupid. Nobody influences me, I choose according to my taste and my brain.

I do not remember trying to copy any one or wanting to be popular.

I always like to be just me because I know if I would pretend then after a while I would just go back to being the way I am and things could get confusing. No, what I am I am and that is it.

@RasmaSandra It is harder to pretend because you have a to live a lie.

I am pretty sure I was like that when I was younger, but not anymore. Kids are still figuring out who they are.

@DianneN True in their teen years they do have an identity crisis, but there are those whop seem to carry it much further.
