Long back I read a discussion here about Netflix. At that time internet connectivity was not very good and getting internet connection used to be a costly affair, here in India. Over the years, access to internet has become easier and cheaper and now many of us have wi fi connections at home at reasonable charges. Now we have smart TVs and smart phones and we could see TV programmes/serials, movies, comedy shows of our choice through internet. Recently, I made an account on Netflix and I found that there is variety of programmes, which one could see. Do you watch programmes/serials/movies through Netflix in your city/country and how do you like it? Image courtesy - Google

We do not really need Netflix because we get everything from our Internet provider and their TV box offer. Netflix is not interesting here, most programmes are only transmitted in German and the choice is limited.

You mean to say Netflix at your place do not show English programmes/Movies but only German programmes, therefore, it is not useful for you?

@LadyDuck If Netflix broadcasts programmes in German, then there is no point buying an account on Netflix. I think paying $25 for a month for internet and watching 300 TV channels is a reasonable price.

@dpk262006 Netflix in Switzerland show the programs in the 3 Swiss languages (Italian - French and German), but as the 75% of Switzerland speaks German, the 80% of the programs are in German. I have a very little choice for 25$ a month. The TVBox offered by our Internet provider has 300 channels free with our Internet subscription. Considering that we barely watch TV one hour a day, I will never subscribe to Netflix.

They offer a good option of programs to watch. My sister in law is addicted to it and amazon prime. I watched a few series on amazon with her. They were good. I have no plans to have it in near future because of two children whom I keep away from screen. I can not preach if I do not follow. Moreover, I am not much of a TV person. Going to good movies in theater is my idea of entertainment.

I have also heard that programmes and its availability on Netflix is such that one gets addicted to it. I understand that range of serials/documentaries/movies is very wide and one would find programme of his/her choice. Some of the Serials on Amazon Prime are also good however, Amazon Prime may not have such a variety as Netflix have. You are right that with small kids at home, you cannot keep glued to TV. Their upbringing is more important than anything else. Of course watching a movie in a theater is altogether a different ball game, then watching a movie on TV.

@dpk262006 My children are teenagers now..so I do not want anymore distractions. We all are movie buffs and our TV time is limited to one or two movies every week. Even my daughters do that. Most of the time TV is off at home. We also go very frequently to theater almost weekly if there is a good release each time. Rate of Netflix has come down due to expanding user base. It is good for retired and elderly people or those who feel lonely.

@arunima25 Yes, for growing teenagers their studies/career is important than anything else. Watching a movie on a theater gives you a different kind of enjoyment and it becomes an excuse for outing. Yes, you are right that those who have plenty of spare time could afford the luxury of watching programmes on Netflix.

My sister has an account and offered me to use her access but I didn't bother cause I can stream their shows and other non-Netflix shows somewhere for free.

Yes I do and we love it here as well. I just finished watching many episodes of a show I like. One of the benefits is that you can watch multiple seasons of a show and really get into it.

Yes, you are right that one could watch multiple seasons of a show at one go or could even download it and could watch it at one's convenience. Which kind of shows you generally watch on Netflix?

I do have Netflix but because it's a Japan account, the movies are more limited and some titles are written in Japanese, which I find very inconvenient.

Do you mean to say that you just cannot watch English programmes/serials/movies with your account? I can understand that if the choice of programmes is only in Japanese, then you may find it inconvenient to watch. PS - Looking beautiful in your profile picture.

@sol_cee If choice is limited then there is no fun making or buying a Netflix account. In India, we could watch almost all programmes/ movies/series and commentaries at a reasonably cost. 994 yen is the amount, which we pay here in India to buy monthly subscription of Netflix.

Recently, my daughter registered me with Netflix under her account where she's entitled to 4 connections and I'm starting to enjoy viewing whenever I have the time.

Yes, there is a facility to register more than one connection on a single subscription. It is nice on the part of your daughter that she has shared her log in details with you and now you could also enjoy watching programmes on Netflix. Which kind of programmes do you watch on Netflix?

@dpk262006 Yes, they have brought old ones on. For example they brought How I Met Your Mother on and I never saw all of it so got to see all 9 seasons. Right now I am not going to be home enough to watch TV so I think if I am going to be busy I will appreciate it much more when can. I am watching the Punisher now. They have a new season but since I have not seen it in a long time I go back to the beginning and watch from there. There are also other programs and movies I have not seen that I can watch whenever I want to.

Which kind of web series do you prefer to see on Netflix? In the era of pandemic it has become more important for us. During lock down last year and this year Netflix and other OTT platforms helped us in keeping ourselves entertained.
