the fight

I had a fight this morning. I don't think the fight produced a winner, but in an hour or so I will have to step off the bus and suffer Round 2.
My opponent?
Wind.
Not the kind that lives in the tummy, gurgling away happily to itself. No, this was Weather Wind. Not content with just sending down great big dollops of rain and creating ginormous puddles, Weather thought it would add a little Wind too. Well, I say little but I obviously mean BIG!
The crux of the matter was Umbrellal. I wanted Umbrella to keep me dry. Wind wanted to simply play with Umbrella. I tugged down. Wind yanked up. Wind crept up and blasted Umbrella into the air. I swore and hung on tight, hoping not to do a Mary Poppins. Although, spending the day on an animated carousel with a fake Cockney is preferable to work, so ...
I think I might pop along to Amazon and write a review for Umbrella, just six months or so after buying it. Not only is it water resistant {just like it claimed to be!} but it's also wind resistant {just like it claimed to be!} As Umbrellas go, it was fairly expensive, but at least this means my fight with Wind ended in a draw, and not with me having to bin a broken Umbrella, torn to shreds by too much bluster.
Round 2 coming up ... !

Thank you. I think I won that round. Wind was seemingly exhausted, and although he attempted one humongous gust which nearly knocked me off my feet, he had no more fight left in him. Bless.

Wind must have been very annoyed when humankind invented the umbrella!

I would rather not use my umbrella if it is windy. I can't win the fight with the wind.

If it hadn't been such wet rain I probably wouldn't have bothered, but the choices were to battle or to look like a drowned rat!

@Poppylicious They served people loyally and they are thrown in a bin, it's sad.

I always feel so sad for the discarded, and very broken, umbrella left by the bin after such weather.

@poppylicious I’m afraid of umbrellas. I worry about poking someone’s eye out with the spikes so I prefer to just get wet. And now of course I’m being flooded by lots of umbrella adverts.

In the wrong hands they can be lethal! What would you prefer to see adverts for? Just so that I can adapt my posts accordingly!

Umbrellas are pointless in my opinion. Well actually they have lots of points but I think you know what I mean.
It's very rare the rain behaves itself and falls vertically which really is the only scenario in which an umbrella will keep you dry.
Not worth the hassle they bring to oneself and others when trying to negotiate crowded pavements.
Ban 'em I say!!

@Poppylicious Yeah, but the wind always seems to be blowing into my face which means positioning the umbrella in such a way I can't see where I'm going. That does not make you popular on Market Street on a wet November morning I can tell you.

Well, obviously Manchester folk are not taught the delicacies of umbrella etiquette. I mourn for you. Also, you do know that you can position an umbrella in more than one way??
