Late Night Calls

I don’t like receiving phone calls during late night and wee hours when you were awaken from your sleep especially if I am receiving it from family members because I mean it emergency. Last night, my cellphone rang and the register shows that it's my sister's number whose house is few meters away. I don’t know but it really gave me a scare every time this happens within that period of time although I was still awake because of my home based job. I answered the call and it’s my sister asking if I have Vicks vapor rub to be used for steam inhalation because she’s having a terrible clogged nose that night. Good thing I have a newly bought one and more than that, I delivered the thing at her doorstep during that hour. Photo Credit: pixabay.com

When my parents were still alive, I would also feel nervous when the phone rings at night. They lived in my home city which is 45 kilometers away and which takes more than an hour to drive. Even now that they're gone, I'd still get worried when the phone rings at night.

I think it's normal especially to people that are valuable to us.

@ZedSmart I was already in bed at 10 last night when the landline phone rang which made me worried. It was a call from my older sister asking me if I could "rescue" her daughter-in-law and grandson who were running flat for maybe 6 kilometers. Good thing they reached a BPI branch. I tried looking for a vulcanizing shop but found none so I asked the bank's guard if we could leave the car for the night to which he acceded. When my niece-in-law's son tried to park the car properly, the tire was already detached from the rim. Early morning today, my nephew came and had someone from the auto shop take the car and have the two front tires replaced with new ones.

I am bothered more by the land line that comes bundled with my comnection cause I still need to stand up and I also cannot identify the caller ( it has no caller I.D.) The cellphone does not bother me since I'm a businessman, I'm used to people calling me anytime of day especially if I have things posted online, if I do not know the number then I assume it's a buyer so my reaction is opposite, it makes me glad and happy.lol

@ZedSmart another thing that annoys me with the landline is when everybody is not yet home especially the children, it makes me worry but when I pick it up it's just some telemarketer or some promo

I admire your functionality as businessman because you're available 24/7. That's more annoying when your call is from landline.

@louievill Ha ha. I can relate. More so if it's a reminder from the telco on your due and you need to pay your bill on/or otherwise the disconnection. Argh!

We always keep our cell phones next to our beds when we sleep. We don't usually get emergency phonecalls at night, but my mother-in-law is ill and she would call my husband in an emergency situation. We want to be able to hear the phone if it happens.

@ZedSmart I am glad that we don't get many calls at night, but if it happens we know that we will be able to hear the phone.

It's a good idea to keep the phone next to us so that we can grab it immediately when there is a call. Yes, emergency situations rarely happen that's why I don't like it because I don't know how to handle the situation. Though, it is important to be informed.

thank god it wasn't an emergency, but yes, i know what you mean thinking it might be an emergency. i guess because she knows you work late hours, she knew you were still awake. maybe if you worked daytime hours, she probably wouldn't text you, knowing you need to sleep and wake up early.

Not sure if my sister called me by chance. I can't remember that I discussed with her my home based job but thankfully, it was not what I was thinking.

Good thing it’s not that kind of ‘emergency’. So did you have Vicks?

Thankfully! I bought the last day and she's the first to use it. Though, I need to bring it myself to her. Sort of being kind and obedient sibling.

In most cases, I'll take a glance who's calling.

Until my mother was alive I replied during the night. Now the answering machines replies after 8 pm until 7 am.

@ZedSmart I go to sleep at 10:30 pm, but when I sit to dine at 8 pm I do not permit to people to annoy me.

Even I don't like late night calls. Even I am awake, I am not in the right frame of mind to discuss stuff..

But we can't ignore if we know the person or especially if they are family. If I do not know the caller or only numbers appeared, I don't answer it.
