For today's entry in song titles that make you think of one song while I'm referring to another, I guess I should qualify it. For today, everyone except JJ and John are thinking of one song, while JJ and John know I mean the other. I'm not only that predictable, but they love "the other song" as well. And here it is.
#3: Crazy
YOU'RE PROBABLY THINKING: Patsy Cline
I MEAN: R.E.M.
And, for today's song (as well as tomorrow's), I could really mean either one.
Let's start with Patsy. All I have to do is say (okay, type) "Patsy." There's another person named Patsy in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but let's face it, even people who don't care for country music know that "Patsy" means Cline. And this song, written by another one-name legend (Willie), is one of Patsy's most enduring songs.
But hey, we're also talking R.E.M. here! In this case, one of their great covers. "Crazy" originated with another Athens, Georgia band, Pylon. It's been a long time since I've watched it, but I think Pylon was in Athens, Ga: Inside/Out more than R.E.M. was! (Of course, back then, R.E.M. was just "one of many" Athens bands, not THE band from Athens.) When I did my R.E.M. countdown I mentioned they were so good at picking -- and performing -- covers, to the extent that a number of them are as good as (if not better than) the original. This is one of them.
You can't go wrong with going "Crazy" either way!
Crazy
YOU'RE PROBABLY THINKING:

Recorded by Patsy Cline

I MEAN:
Written by Pylon
Recorded by R.E.M.
Released as a single, 1984
From Dead Letter Office, 1987
And you don't know why:
