We didn't get it right so it has to be done again

Some time back, I wrote about putting a new cupboard in our caravan. We were pleased with the results but when we got the van out of the shed a while back, we discovered the cupboard doors had warped badly. We now think this might have been because we varnished the fronts of the doors but not the backs. The backs have absorbed moisture in the air and now we have warped doors. As luck would have it we can use the first doors we took off. They won’t swing up out of the way like the warped ones but will open sideways. However we won’t have to buy new material. The photo is of the cupboards when they were first done and before they warped.

It's just a five-ply composite - 12mm plywood to be precise. Then we varnished it with a clear varnish. .

That must have been frustrating.

It was a bit annoying, yes. And it took us quite q while to work out how to fix it. We weren't keen on buying new timber for a door.

The new doors are heavier so they are most unlikely to warp.

@JudyEv that’s good. We have floors in the kitchen that are warped due to water leak

@ShyBear88 Ugh. That would be a harder fix than what we're facing.

We haven't even had to buy new hinges. That's why we don't throw out too much. We can usually find something around that we can use.

Atleast this time will just be repairing not working the whole thing.

Yes, it is just the doors that need adjustments. We don't have to make a whole new cupboard. .

The doors will open the other way which won't be quite so convenient but that's okay.

Do you have a roof leak?

It had leaked and the leak repaired before we bought it but the wall was buckled and mouldy so we took out the cupboard and replaced the damaged panels. The cupboard was longer and went a bit over the handbasin so you were forever bumping your head on it. It should be fine now although it would have been better if the doors had lifted up rather than swing out to the sides.

True but it's just lucky we don't have a lot else to do with our time.

I think we're on to it now. The new doors bump into the ceiling light but we'll order a smaller light online and that will fix that.

I have never of such a thing happening, so now I know what I should do if I ever need to varnish some doors!

That's just our best guess. Maybe there is some other reason but I don't know what it could be. Vince thought it might be the gas struts pushing against the edges but that doesn't seem to be the case.
