I slipped yesterday - thanks to Preiti she had spilt her soup around her bowl.
I realised I could not get up on my own and needed help.
The concern is what if you are alone and you have a fall? Do you have any ways that help you if you cannot get up normally?
Do share your experience.
Here is a video that has some suggestions

That is the one thing I am very careful about not falling. My apartment is small so I can easily get about slowly but surely.

We cannot put a load on our knee joints and that is the main hassle.

My dad fell a few times, he just crawled to something that he could lean on to get up. Mom was not sturdy enough to help him. But if she knew she would get a chair near him or call me.

@allknowing Cell phones can be very useful for that if you keep them with you.

This is a general discussion about what seniors should do when they encounter a fall. I know you are far away (lol)

@allknowing Old age means after 35
Earlier it may be started in 60 now it has changed.
So I will come under the old category.

@LadyDuck It is good to have the mobile on us. We must start having pockets on our clothes. (lol)

If the knee joints are weak that worsens the situation

@allknowing My knees are good. I fell one morning two summers ago. A strong thunderstorm started early in the morning, I got up from the bed to close the window, the water had already come inside and I fell on my back. My husband was in the basement and did not realize that I had fallen. The back hurt so much that I could only turn and get on my knees, crawl to the bathroom and grab the border of the bath tub to get up.

That must have been a strenuous effort.
I will have to pick up some ideas too and may be carry my mobile with me just in case I am alone somewhere - scary indeed.

@allknowing The video was very good. I always had in mind that I would try to crawl to something where I could pull myself up.

I fell the other day on the sidewalk. It was hard to get back up when you have nothing to lean on or to assist you but I managed.

@anil02 You should make some arrangement so that someone will know if you ever slip which I hope you will not

Just see if you can do it getting up from a lying position on the floor. It is not easy. If you can that indeed is good news.

@DianneN Good to hear that. Yes. Exercise is sure the secret. If an 80 year old could win that prize for doing the most difficult salsa - not difficult at all.

@allknowing I can without any problem. I have tight stomach muscles from exercise. If I didn't, I would roll over and try to get up using my hands and knees.

This can be a serious problem or those who aren't as mobile as they once were. Our social services department has alert bracelets which are distributed to vulnerable persons to alert helpers if they need assistance

It is better that you see if you can really manage when someone is around.
