Can you imagine your life without a refrigerator?

In past decades, everyone lived without a refrigerator... But after this incredible invention became a reality, everything changed and we became dependent on it (in relation to food preservation). Well... It seems that life without a refrigerator becomes a little chaos. Can you imagine your house without a refrigerator these days?

During winter I could place stuff on containers in the balcony, but when the temperature goes up it would be a mess.

I can't imagine that, but I suppose people are able to live with whatever they get used to doing! Thank goodness I don't have to live without one!

My folks lived before fridges were in common use. In cities, they'd have 'ice chests' to keep food cool and in the country there was the Coolgardie safe, shaped like a fridge. There was water in a top compartment and strips of fabric hung down the sides. The water soaked down these and as it evaporated the food was kept cool. Of course it wasn't nearly as efficient but it did help preserve some foods.
