How Come People On SSI Are Afraid To Make Any Extra Money?

And I am not referring to anyone here, as many Disabled are posting here daily, and many of you also have other things you are doing to earn some extra $$. I'm talking about all the ones who are always Begging and pleading for help on Facebook and afraid to earn even an extra dime.
I often wonder how many of them have ever worked and miss the income they could make then? I know many of us here Disabled used to work and will gladly do anything to earn some extra money. These people just are always either that is too much work, or would Cost too much or too complicated. They never even want to take the time to learn how to earn something.
We have Writers here who are Disabled, people who design and Sell Cards, I sell on Zazzle, eBay, Bonanza, Mercari, etc and am Disabled. I even tend to go to events here locally in our area and sell things like my Pocket Watches and other jewelry and Jerky, and sometimes the extra money is not Bad. But for me it would be too depressing to not do anything extra. And since I am working from home for the most part, I can take time off as I need too.
Do you think it's depression, lack of motivation, or just plain afraid to do anything too happy with their small amount of $$ they get each month?

Some have never worked a day in their life, they wont ever try anything.
Some have severe mental issues.
I will work anyday over begging, sick or not.

I will do whatever it takes to make money. I have never been on welfare or gotten food stamps. I have worked hard all my life and did it on my own and so did my husband. @andriaperry.

I can understand when it is Severe Mental issues, but personally for me after I had a Nervous Breakdown in the 80s getting me back to work and wanting to work, etc was the Best thing anyone could have ever done. Now people are too afraid to help or encourage someone when it really could be why they'[re so depressed, etc is because they're just laying around with no desire

@jstory07 Unfortunately I cannot work anymore outside the home due to Health issues, and wish I still could. But not afraid to help my husband navigate with either Door Dash or Uber Eats, Sell online and at events. If I do nothing I would get too depressed, or stressed and probably loose our home, etc

Yes, and that is Sad. I guess it is upbringing or too used to being helped by everyone and having many feel Sorry for them instead of encouraging them to try doing things to help them

Many times due to how they were taught or think, many never want to think outside the Box and come up with ways to earn a little extra for things they may want but usually cannot afford. Or even to help bring them out of a situation and pay bills they may be getting behind one.

@KrauseHome I can understand their situation. I lived mostly on my own alone. I used to had too many things in mind to do and used to get paralyzed about not doing 10 things. some people can be like they don't have a clue what to do in first place.

I raised six children and worked full time and my husband worked full time. I had a business on the side selling at the flea market on weekends. I had stuff in several stores on consignment. I had yard sales and did childcare in my home.
I did all that so my children could do fun things and go on field trips.
I also later sold online and enjoy selling on ebay.
I sell on ebay now and sell things for a pawn shop and work at the animal shelter when they need me.
I have had several people that have asked for help and when I give them names of sites to go to they never do it. So I will not feel sorry for them when they say they have no money.

So True. Some just will always be the First to complain or ask everyone for money always expecting a hand out but then when you try and offer them ways to earn some extra $$ eBay they think should be Free to sell on, and why sell on even Facebook Marketplace because they are too scared to have someone come to their home, or it would take them weeks to meet up even if someone wants to buy something because they can't figure out a way to meet up with them

Yes until I had to claim disability due to my physical health I always prefered working and do miss it. That is why I am always doing something to try and earn some extra money whether it is online, offline, idoing Shows, etc.

@KrauseHome There are people who complain, but they never worked, they are too lazy to do anything, even if they are healthy.

There are times that I feel so bad and lose my motivation to work if the payout is too low but since I need extra cash I lift myself up to be motivated to get that income at least than receive nothing.

Same here. I find myself getting more Depressed and stressed when there is not extra $$ coming in from somewhere. That is why I am always doing something or trying to find something that can help improve my income level especially when needing something the most.

I am disabled as far as certain days depending on the weather and how physically and emotionally busy I have been at the time, that effects my medical situation as to whether I can sit or stand for a long time, go out in the elements to even get to work, whether I slept good the night before (which rarely happens to me) or even work at all that day.
Iam not on SSI, but I do know some disabled people that are and have problems being on SSI rather then SSD (Disability). Because SSI is for people that are disabled or retired that are considered to be low income, under $750 a month. This is what I was told by the people at the Social Security office.
One of my friends got a check for $35 for his birthday last year and deposited into his bank account. A few days later he received a phone call from the SS office asking him where it came from. When he explained he was then told that he could not do that. He had to cash the check and keep the cash on him!
Three other people (2 retired and 1 disabled) that I know that get SSI and was getting food stamps while they were waiting to get approved for the SSI. When they got approved the food stamps were cut a lot. One person $17 and 2 other's to $15!
The one woman said that it was not worth her time and expense! She was told that she had to apply and accept anything she could or she would lose the SSI!
. She got approved for something (I can't remember what) for $5 a month, so her SSI check was cut $5

Interesting... I was always under the impression and told by a lot of people I know on SSI that they are allowed to make up to like I think $750 and not have to worry about loosing their check, so maybe it varies from state to state or each persons Disability reasons. But to me the low amount you are given for Food Stamps would make me think most would want to earn a little extra to help with food. I can't get SSI since I am married, but get SSD.

@KrauseHome I was told by the SS people that a person on SSD can earn up to $850 per month , but it has to be for 9 months straight to effect any type of loss to their monthly check. I guess with SSI it probably varies with different people. Because one of those people that I mentioned lives in a different state.
