My February new normal

Starting today I will be covering my van because I had to have my mechanic get the ice off the lower wiper blade that is under the hood. I got most everything else of using a deicer, which works great for most jobs that are more in the open. I've also used it on my frozen doors on the vehicles before. This means I will need to head to work earlier to have to time to attach my tarp. But I have up my games again and hopefully for a few months this round. That may allow me more mylotting time although I do have many other things waiting on me. At work now but will catch you all later.

This is a lot of extra work, but at least your car is protected.

@MarshaMusselman We had to cover the car windows when we had a second car that stayed outside under the carport. Now we only have one and it stays in the garage.

It is a lot of extra work especially if I have to walk around on icy surfaces which is still the normal in my town. In the daytime hours I'm able to hook the tarp up to the coils on the suspension and I can release that without looking, but when it's dark it doesn't work as well. I found that even if I just hook each side with a bungee around my side mirrors it does keep the tarp on the car assuming I'm able to get each corner into each door in the front. That will help me not have to bend and find the coils each time even in windy weather. I just hope no one plays with my contraption if I do it the easier way.

You're good at protecting your car.

@Nevena83 I don't think so. There's not much underneath my car to attach any wire or bungee to other than the springs of the suspension system. It's hard enough working with the bungees with gloves on in the cold weather, I doubt I'd do well with wire instead.

I'm not sure how good I am at it. Thus far the tarp has stayed put, but today it want to blow off. Finally, I put a brick on the top of the hood, but I'm not sure yet whether I'll want to carry that with me to use in that fashion or whether I should devise something to help hold the bungee cords to the tarp better as the hooks keep getting out when the wind blows in a certain way.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, it might be easier for you to put some wire up, instead of wearing a brick.

I wondered how you would keep the tarp on. I read the post then looked at the photo again and figured out you shut it in the doors. I hope it works great!

That's what my mechanic suggested to slam it in the doors. I was going to hook a portion on the ladder but that allowed to much space for snow and rain so I went with his idea.

I guess it is worth it to protect the car. We have a windshield cover for our cars

@MarshaMusselman So we don't have to scrape, it just hooks over the mirrors.

For a similar reason, or because you get tired of having to scrape it clean when you need to go someplace? That might be another good reason although I don't know whether I'd bother if my wipers were more visible or not.

@BelleStarr And it lies flat against the windshield at the top too even in windy weather? I now have my tarp closed in at the corners in the doors like the picture, but also hooked at the mirrors and today the bottom of the tarp which is probably quite a bit longer than your thing is blowing in the wind. Does yours fit exactly over the windshield? I was thinking it might be magnetic, but then again I dont' think there's anything around the window that's a magnet, so I'm not sure. Something along the lines of this one? I'll have to see if any will work on my car. This might be a lot easier if I find something appropriate.

Best of luck. That isn't the normal I'd want.

Not my idea of fun either but if it keeps the ice off it's a benefit long-term.

You are very organized. Including taking into account the extra time needed to fix the tarp. I should learn from you

I'm taking a few days off from putting it on at least until the next snow is expected mid week.

You got that right, but not being able to drive my car isn't much fun either. You're not having much fun either with the weather you've been seeing.
