MyLot: Follow me and I follow you back?

Ops! I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, folks. But I don't think this as a "rule".
At first, I admit that I followed everyone who followed me as a way of showing appreciation. But, when I saw what some of those people were posting, I didn't see any sense in continuing to follow them because they either didn't post anything or their contents (which were very short, or only with links of publicity) were uninteresting for me.
So, from there I started to filter the people I follow around here because they are people I usually read what they post because I know it will be discussions with quality.
I thank (I really appreciate this!
) all people who follow me, but I don't see it as an obligation to follow them back without having a specific motivation for it. So, I'd like to know: Does anyone else think like me in this sense?

I just checked my statistics and I have over 800 following me but hardly see them in my discussions (lol)

@Sheali Of what use are those when they are not seen around?

I think "everybody" did that when they first got here, then quickly learned better.
It's not a good thing...neither is the Genesis song.

@MarshaMusselman — I like some of Genesis’ music, just not that song.

@FourWalls I don't remember what they sang and probably won't check them out again.

You don't like that song? I didn't remember it until I listened for a bit. I didn't remember the follow you follow me portions but I like the music.

I only follow a fraction of the people who follow me. Most people who are following me, just have visited the site a few times, and don't come back anyway.

I follow some of the people who follow me, but not everyone. Sometimes I recognize the name immediately because I already had a lot of interaction with that person. When that happens I follow back. If I don't recognize the name I visit their profile. If they have no activity or only posted spam I don't follow back. If they have written real discussions that look interesting to me I follow back.

@WiseGhots In the beginning I sometimes followed people back even though they hadn't written anything. I don't do that anymore, because I want to know what type of discussions they start and how they interact.

@Porcospino I think almost everyone does that in the beginning.

There is reasons one should not do it that way. Many who follow you are never going to be permanent or on here so rare you will or get in the way of what you like to see. Why I tell people do not follow me. I am always in the way my whole life.

The follow thing is meaningless earnings wise.

I agree but at the same time some people are influenced by number of followers. So if, for example, a reader sees Bob has 1,000 followers and someone else has 100 followers that reader will probably be more inclined to check stuff out that was written by Bob as he seems more popular rather than the person that has 100 followers.

@myklj999 I don't either. If I like a discussion I read and comment. Doesn't matter what the profile of that person says or how many followers he/she has either. But there are people for whom it's a big deal.

I mostly only follow people that I've interacted in for quite a while. I don't follow many after they decide to follow me unless I discover I wasn't following someone that I thought I already was.
If you look at any members activity you will usually find those that interact a lot here without the need to follow them until you want to.

You can follow people without actually "following" them by pressing that button.
I hate this type of thing where people swap follows or page likes (as is the case on FB). I won't follow you or like your page just because you follow me or liked one of my pages. I will do it because I want to. And I also hate it when people here are like: I respond to your discussion so you should respond to my discussion and if you don't i won't respond to your stuff anymore...That's kinda rude and childish at the same time. People should respond because they have something to say or add to a discussion and not because someone responded to one of theirs. And they should not be obligated to respond either.

@WiseGhots I am reading my line and it can be interpreted differently. I meant to say you don't have to hit that follow button to actually follow people. Hope that is the way you understood it.

Most of the time I follow back. But I have seen where a lot of people on my list is not on no more or they don't ever say anything to what I post. So I have to go filter that part and just get down to main people I follow on here.

Me I am not that conscious about being quality poster but for as long as you post interesting things then I would follow you but do not expect I would reply back every time you post. It will depend on how you make the post interesting and appealing to me.

I follow selectively and those whose posts I like to read and discuss about. Yet I have no set rule as such.
