I can't believe this has happened again!

We were enjoying our breakfast and coffee this morning, watching FOX News when the doorbell rang. I thought it was probably the mail carrier....she's so nice to bring packages to our door when they won't fit in the mail box. But it wasn't her. It was a young man telling us that he had run off the road and through our front yard. How many times is this going to happen??? We just finished rebuilding the garage after the Christmas morning crash! Thank God he didn't get hurt, but his car stopped just inches from a large tree. That could have been really bad. We suspect he was texting, although he didn't admit it. The Highway Patrol came and asked if we wanted to file a report for the insurance company, but my husband told him no. Instead of the boy calling a tow truck to pull his car out of the edge of the swamp, my husband pulled the car out with his tractor. He saved that boy a tow truck charge, increased insurance premiums (if we had filed a claim) and do you think that guy appreciated any of it? Nope. He tore up part of our front yard, but never offered an apology. What's wrong with people? No one seems to appreciate anything anymore. I'm thankful he didn't get hurt, but this is getting ridiculous.

Wow! Sounds like someone needs to move house! Have you considered land mines in your front yard?

That's a thought! We're hoping to convince the Dept of Transportation to put up a barrier in the sharpest part of the curve. That wouldn't have stopped the one today, though.

@1creekgirl Maybe if you present them with the clear up bill every time it happens you might get your barrier!!

@WorDazza I don't know, I don't think they'd believe they were responsible in any way. But we can prove from police reports how many times it's happened, so maybe they'll see it's really needed.

Glad you didn't have much damage except to the yard. Now that it is over I hope he thinks twice about not getting hurt and will come back by and thank you

My husband said he mumbled, "thanks", but never apologized for tearing up our yard. He didn't seem to appreciate my husband pulling his car out and not filing an insurance claim.

That's a shame. And you're probably right, he probably was texting while driving. Sadly, our son lost a very close friend, she was believed to be sending a text when she ran into another car, in broad daylight, in good driving conditions. Suffice to say that although she's gone, and his heart was broken, he will never ever text and drive in his lifetime. Sometimes we can learn from others' mistakes. I'm glad that he stopped short of hitting the tree.

I'm so sorry about the young lady. I'm glad that it will keep your son from texting while driving.

It sounds like your house must be at a turn that a lot of people can't make. A neighbor of mine used to have his mailbox knocked over on a regular basis. Once he moved it a dozen feet it never got hit again.

Yeah, there's a rather sharp curve in the four lane and when it's raining, cars tend to slide right off the road and into our field. The five or six times that has happened, there was property damage at times, but no one got hurt. Today, the car left the road closer to our house, just missing the mail box and the trees in our yard. Christmas morning, the woman fell asleep and instead of ending up in the field, she crashed through our garage. Maybe we should move.

@1creekgirl That may be the only way to stop it, unless you can somehow get the road realigned.

Do you live just after a curve? There is a curve near a house here and I have seen people run off the road there more than once. One time it was somebody with a big load of hay or something and it was all over the place!

@1creekgirl My parents have that issue too..as they live just after the curve, but it is usually when it snows that happens.

Yes, there's a big curve on the four lane by our house. People are forever sliding into our field when it rains.

@snowy22315 We don't get snow too often, but it happens frequently when it rains. Did your parents ever have any damage?

My husband's a good guy. He didn't want the tow truck tearing up our yard even more, plus it saved the boy some money. You'd think he would have at least said thanks and sorry.

@1creekgirl Why is it when people help others the others do not appreciate it. He had no right how he treated you. You and your husband helped him and what did he do turn on you. That is just wrong.

That does happen to people at times. But this young man didn't seem very affected by it. Maybe he didn't think it was anything much to be concerned about. But he should have apologized for tearing up our front yard and thanked my husband for saving him a towing bill and increased insurance premiums.

That's sad that he didn't apologize but those who don't do the right things just need a lot of extra prayer. You did the right thing and your reward for it as you know is waiting for you in Heaven. =)
