My summer volunteer opportunity!

I have been studying volcanoes and specifically going to Sakurajima in Kyushu, Japan, during my holidays. When I came back for the third time, last December, I was shooting the breeze with the folks who run the Visitors Center and they said I was very unusual among their visitors for 1. being able to understand both Japanese and English and 2. coming back and staying for more than a day, really getting to know the area. (Most people are four-hour tourists. Boy, they are missing a lot.)
So I brought up my idea of being an English-speaking volunteer at the Visitors' Center. To my surprise, they were very enthusiastic about this idea.
I sent them a letter last week regarding the dates I was available to volunteer during the summer, and today I got a very happy email from them saying that of course they would love to have me volunteer!
I'm very excited. I'm not earning any money, but I can share my beloved Sakurajima volcano with the people who are coming through, and learn more while I'm at it.
Have you ever volunteered for something?

Not since I was a kid, back then I did a year or so volunteering at weekends on a nature reserve.
Volunteering is actually something I've been thinking of doing for a while.
I'm not surprised the people are happy to have you as you'll probably enhance tourists' experiences and that'll probably lead to them getting more visitors

That is really wonderful. English speakers will love having a guide who is a native speaker.
