Didn't get my mom a fancy gift for her birthday this year

It was my mom's birthday yesterday. I wanted to get her a wallet as a present but could not find one that I really liked and could actually afford. Tried looking for something else but nothing I looked at appealed to me. I didn't want to not get her anything, so instead I got her a nice greeting card (which turned out to be 50% off) and put $20 worth of scratch-off lotto tickets inside. I also got her a beautiful bouquet with roses, sunflowers and other flowers and greenery. It cost $30 but I got a $10 discount so only paid $20. She really loved the flowers and enjoyed doing the scratch-offs. Knowing this made me happy and I don't feel bad that I didn't get her an actual present and one that would have probably cost me over $100. Plus, getting a discount on the card and the flowers was great too. I love saving money! Oh and she told me she won. It was only $4 though. I was hoping she'd win big. Oh well. Four bucks is better than nothing. Have you ever gotten someone scratch-off lottery tickets for their birthday? Do you think it's a nice birthday present?

I think that no matter the gift, it's the thought that counts. Ollie's has greeting cards for around $1.99. Just as an FYI. I am not even sure if you have an Ollie's near you... I often have to be creative with my gift giving. I don't always have a lot to spend. Here lately? Well I've been trying to give gifts of food or other things that can be consumed and won't go to waste.

I have not heard of Ollies. I prefer to give things that last a long time. Flowers die quick and food is consumed quick as well and then what's left? Nothing. A tangible gift lasts a long time if not for life.

That is true. Unless the person gives a thoughtless or useless gift.

I would love a lottery ticket for my birthday, I have to ask to my husband to go out today, because my birthday is tomorrow.

@lovebuglena This year I decided to celebrate with my husband only. He invites me out for dinner and I have a cake at home to blow the candles.

@LadyDuck That sounds nice. Do you know where you are going or is it a surprise?

I got her something for New Years (that thing that you use to infuse water) but I have a feeling she has not used it yet.

@db20747 That can be nice but at the same time they can only use it at that store and if they can't find anything they are stuck.

Thanks. She was. If only she had won more than just $4.

@lovebuglena Yes, it would be good if she won much more, but she might be better next time.

If that's what the person enjoys theres nothing wrong with that I dont think. It's about happiness and love. =)

I'm glad she enjoyed her gifts. And four dollars is better than nothing, especially when you didn't have to buy them to win it. I have gotten scratch tickets for my mom and my boyfriend as gifts before. They liked it, as they love doing them but not spending money on them. as do i.

Definitely nice to win $4 without spending anything. I am thinking of buying myself some scratch-offs. Maybe I will get lucky. I bought some for myself for my birthday back in December and ended up winning. It wasn't a lot but made me happy.

I haven't ever. Regarding your gift for your mom, it was nice of you at least giving her anything! However I must say that her best gift ever is having you by her side on a special day like her birthday is! I hope my Lord bless your mom with good health, and long life!

She was definitely surprised when I showed up at her door and with flowers. I didn't tell her I was coming. Wanted it to be a surprise. So when she called me I didn't pick up the phone.

@lovebuglena Sounds very funny. I will always praise those children who take some time to give a pleasant surprise to their parents, like you did! Thumbs up to that!
