Bob and I got to thinking that just maybe he needs coffee. He sleeps all the time. For the sake of his ulcer and other parts of his stomach he will wait to drink it after breakfast, though. No one can really decide if it is bad for afib. We will ask the new heart doctor, next week. Meanwhile, Bob has library books and he has not gone back to sleep. He ate a good breakfast and is having coffee while he reads.

If I could get by on just the smell I would, but to me it is so delicious with a pastry. I need to avoid the pastry.

coffee tends to accelerate the heart, doesn't it? (from experiment on some critters )

It does tend to raise the heart rate a bit. It also has some very beneficial effects if consumed in moderation.

The caffeine in cokes makes Tony`s worst, he finally gets to see a new doctor new week about it. Thank God! The quack in Anniston has almost killed him twice and out Primary agrees its time to move on to Birmingham, to HIS doctor.

We are changing cardiologists as well. The caffeine in Coke always seemed more acid to me than in coffee. The doctor for the ulcer said pop is worse than coffee. Bob faithfully takes his carvedilol (coreg) and his heart rate stays good. He also takes lisinopril, even though his blood pressure is low.

@GardenGerty Lisinopril like to have killed me, a doctor gave it to me said I had a bad heart, my BP was low enough to keep me in bed. I can bet that is one of Bob`s problems. Tony has been on coreg but is not on solatol

Neither of my kids, nor my first hubby ever drank coffee. Hubby (1st one) drank a lot of Dr. Pepper. My son tries to limit caffeine. My daughter likes to drink tea, and water.

You had better ask the doctor's advice whether can have coffee or not.

Doctor for the ulcer said he needs to eat first. The heart doctor he was seeing said it was okay. We will talk with the new cardiologist on Friday of this week. They even gave him coffee in the hospital both times he was there. He just did not drink it most times because by the time he ate breakfast he was too full and it was cold.

Twenty hours or so of sleep daily is not good for you. You lose muscle and do not consume enough calories or drink enough fluids. He has said that part of his sleeping is boredom.

My dad had ulcers and something in the back of my mind is telling me that he wasn't supposed to have coffee... but I was pretty young...

The doctor that treated Bob's ulcer said he was not to have coffee on an empty stomach, so now he waits until after breakfast for his first cup. Caffeine in many forms is hard on an ulcer that is not protected.

It was not bothering his afib before. His concern mostly was not to irritate his ulcer.

The doctor that talked with us about the acid erosion and ulcer said he needs to put something in his stomach first.

His body has taken a hammering lately. Maybe he does need a lot of sleep.

There is a balance, but yes, he has always needed more sleep than I do, and even more so right now. When his iron levels build back up he will do better. He says some of it is boredom, though. Maybe also hibernation since it is winter.

Caffeine is bad if you have afib. That is what my husband has. And his Doctor said not to drink caffeine.

There are mixed opinions about drinking a moderate amount of coffee. He was drinking coffee for over a year after his stroke with no problem. It became a problem for his ulcer, though.

He has a cup after breakfast, one midday, and we have one around four in the afternoon or a little later. That prevents my morning headache the next day.
