Do you have a tattoo?

When I was a little kid, tattoos were relatively rare. Some men got them when they were in the military, usually on their arms where they could be covered up with a shirt.
When I was a teenager (late 60s early 70s) they became more common. Even a few bold women had them. Maybe a tiny butterfly or a small flower above the breast or on the tummy.
Now, it is not uncommon for nice respectable ladies to have full sleeves. In fact, I am the exception by not having a tattoo.
When I was in California, I thought maybe it was a trend peculiar to that state, but now that I am in North Carolina, I see that tattoos are almost as common here as they were there.
That makes me wonder about the rest of the world. If you live outside of the US, are tattoos common in your part of the world?

@WiseGhots No, it's not at all forbidden, only considered "bad taste".

I don't want a tattoo and so glad I don't have one. Since my body doesn't belong to me I will never get one.

@TiarasOceanView My nephew has some tattoos about a band he used to like. He's not into them anymore, but he says he's fine with the tattoos. They represent a time in his life, he says. Personally, photographs and memories are good enough for me. I don't need a monument to a "time in my life" on my body. I have enough marks on it as it is.

@norcal Perhaps myLotters don't believe in them.
I do see many people out and about with tattoos. My young sis-in-law has a small tasteful one on her ankle, and our new DIL has a beautiful one on her back. However, some people tend to overdo them. To me they are quite ugly unless small and unobtrusive.

My husband and I are both completely free of tattoos, but we are the anomaly among our friends. We have been riding Harley Davidson motorcycles for 40 years. In the "biker" culture tattoos are almost universal. But, as I was saying, nowadays every soccer mom seems to have one.

@norcal i would assume youd have one due to being a biker. Even a teeny tiny one.
Yes, now almost anyone has one.

Tattoos seem to be more and more common. Personally, I'm not a fan. I don't think they are attractive and ask, why? That said. Of my four daughters one has two tattoos. One on her back (where it is covered unless she's in a bathing suit and one on her ankle. To the best of my knowledge she doesn't intend to get any more.

I got one on my left wrist of my first son’s name as a birthday present to myself. And I obviously need to get one on my other wrist of my youngest son. I have like 2 or 3 others in mind as well for certain other parts that are in places I can easily hide if need be. I love them. I can understand how people can be obsessed with getting them done all over but I personally like them to be meaningful if I’m going to have them anywhere on my body. I’m not a big fan of the whole sleeve thing though.

They are becoming far too common here for my liking! I'm becoming a real grump. A lot of women have them and many are more than just a small discreet one.

I wouldn't say they are common but here in Honduras they are getting there. I used to work on a company that didn't had policies about tattoos and most employees had one.
