Should children be taught to deal with money?

In some countries of the world, financial education is one of the school subjects (with an overvaluation... in a good way) and the main objective of it's to make children learn the real value of money. Besides that, they become more aware of their spending and how they will manage what they win with theirs future jobs. Do you really think is that necessary or should they naturally learn it?

It's something that definitely needs to be taught while they're young. Some kids grow up and have no clue how to budget their money.

Yes, Vicki! This is a very important question. They need to learn that as soon as possible.

@WiseGhots When our kids were little, they got an allowance each week. They were required to put 10% (tithes) in one jar, half in another jar (savings) and the last in a third jar which was spending money.

When I was in High School we had a life class that taught us how to budget and use our money and I taught my kids who are all successful now. They have dropped all those classes in schools now and kids have no clue how to budget money or pay bills, some can't even count back money at the register unless it tells them how much to give. So sad

@JohnRoberts I think my mom had our cards and numbers already, she gave them to us when we started working.

I really think this is important to teach the children the ficance. They shall learn how to take good advantage of their money. But here I think they just teach children how to identify the banknotes, and it is no more fianancial education. The financial education seems to be one subject from the colleague/university and I personally think it is too late.

My children are taught about money as part of life and Home Schooling. I wish I was taught about credit and managing money better as a child so I do teach mine now to hopefully save them from learning the hard way. =)

You are doing the right thing. Whether we like it or not. money is crucial in life and care and responsibility need to be observed.

I think it’s great to start young learning how to save and use money for the future. My three kids have piggy banks to collect there money once it gets to full I empty it out roll or take the cash to the bank and put it into there bank accounts. When they get Birthday money we usually let them use half to get something and the other half goes into the bank to stay put. We always tell them buy something small you want and save for the big stuff you wantZ

They need to be taught. Perhaps there would less adult financial screw ups if they had been taught to respect money instead of being irresponsible and looking for handouts from the responsible.

Honestly, I do think that it is something that children should learn. It can't hurt to teach them about money, saving, and such.

I think children needs to be taught about handling money so that it will be easier for them when they grow up.

Most definitely they need to learn. We gave both of our kids credit cards of their own while in high school. It was for emergencies... Same went for their phones... this is going wayyyy back lol. Perks come with responsibilities and they never abused our trust. I don't think you can naturally learn money management!! Have to admit... we were kind of nervous though. ;)

It's a good thing to develop good financial habits while you're young whether it's done in school or by the parents.

Yes they should learn to save their money so that if we are not there for them they have something to use and also for their future.

@WiseGhots I think at a certain age kids need to understand that they need to learn about handling money and when they grow up they will have to know how to deal with money and their money.

In an ideal world, all parents would teach their children about responsible use of money. But many parents are irresponsible, just barely surviving, or whatever. So yes, money/budgeting classes in school is a great idea, especially for the kids who wouldn't learn it at home.

YES. There is no such thing as naturally learning about money. If that were true there would be far less poor people in the world. I think it should be taught in school. It's probably the most useful information any person could ever have. It's a shame, to me, how few people know anything at all about even basic economics.
