Phew! What a Confusing Morning!

It all started when Adam asked whether I'd seen the car insurance policy in the post, which I hadn't but I told him that I'd confirmed his 26 years no claim bonus to them and they'd taken money out of my account at the beginning of February but I promised I'd get in touch with them by email to see where the policy was.
When the post arrived Adam received a letter from his pension provider asking what he wanted to do with the money held in it. He was given several options but, after discussing with me, he decided he'd leave it there until he was 65.
He then queried what his government pension (the State pension) was likely to be so I went onto the government website and had to go through hoops to find out. When he started work back in the 1970's his retirement age was supposed to be 65 but that's now increased to 66. He was satisfied with what I'd found out so I decided I'd look at mine which was the standard amount but, although when I started work in the 1970's my retirement age was 60, that's now increased to 66 years and 2 months so not best pleased.
However, we do get a free bus when we reach 65 although, in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland it's only 60! Why do the English have to wait another 5 years?!
Now, having done all that, my brain is full of facts and figures which will probably come back to me in a nightmare tonight!

In the US, one can take early retirement at 62 at reduced benefits. Full benefits are at 66 and a half for most.

I'm looking forward to next May as I reach 60 and have three work pensions which I can draw on. They don't amount to much but better than a smack in the eye with a wet kipper as we say here in England!!

The retirement age keeps changing here too. It can all get very confusing.

Quite a few women have marched in London. They feel that we've worked all our lives so should at least have a reasonable time to enjoy a retirement. Unfortunately, a lot of our taxes seem to go on unemployed people who won't work and young girls who get pregnant and we have to keep paying out for every child they have.
