A Rabbit in my Yard

So many of us are trying to be patient waiting for spring. Myself included. Now the weather shows possible snow next week. Crazy roller coaster weather. Sitting here looking out in my backyard I saw a rabbit. I have not seen one since last summer. It was a good sign spring is close. Hopefully before too long I will see more. They like eating the patches of clover in the yard. I snapped this photo before he hopped away. Do you see any critters in your yard? I see the birds year round. But I also see rabbits and sometimes turkeys. What about in your world?

I see lots of cats. Male cats. I live in a town and I don't see many wild animals. I also see owls. There are lots of them.

@CarolDM Here we have lots of little owls. They make a funny noise. They seem kittens.

@dya80dya That sounds cute, wonder what kind of owls they are. Are these what your owls look like?
A movie taken from a hide in Ultima Frontiera, Donau-delta, Romania, showing Little Owls looking for insects on a bunch of bricks. I combined a few pictures ...

As long as they keep your garden intact nothing like a rabbit jumping around.

You make me want to go check. I haven't seen one. We are having spring like temperatures here. I almost went down to the creek but just wanted to go home.. Now I wish I had done so so that I would have a picture to share. Maybe another day. It's supposed to rain tomorrow. Hopefully Mr. Rabbit is heralding in spring for you guys. Poor little thing looks like he's ready for it!

@CarolDM He's a cutie. We can see ours at the side yard near the hill. I have seen them in the front yard sometimes as well. The cats stay in the front yard though so we hardly see the little bunnies. Did your kitties see the rabbit?

@ScribbledAdNauseum They usually do but they missed this one. They are sleeping of course. My cats stay indoors but hey don't miss much with the windows.

Of all the critters I see in my backyard, my favorite are always the turkeys, owls and hawks. I used to love seeing the deer, but they just annoy me now for some reason. I saw a red-shouldered hawk pluck a snake out of the grass the other day and fly away with it. The owls do a great job of keeping the mice and rat population down, but those owls sure are noisy at night, especially during mating season!

Oh wow, I would love to see owls, I do see the turkey and hawks but never deer. I bet the owls are noisy at night, their busy time.

You have green grass? Where I live the yards are still covered in snow. If that is your yard, I am jealous.....it snowed all day yesterday, no wind, just big beautiful flakes falling from the sky. I haven't seen my grass in months, I wonder if its green under that white stuff.

@CarolDM I hope my underwear is not under that snow but for the first thing I read this morning you did allow me to laugh, so I thank you. I just woke up and turned on the computer....and its a good day when i can laugh before my first coffee..

Yes it never turned completely brown this winter.. Maybe due to all of the rain, we have had record rainfall. Maybe you do have some green somewhere under the snow.

We do have rabbits here and there. I've heard they can destroy flowers but I've not had them eating mine for the past few years. Unfortunately, we also get critters in our house. I saw a black rodent last night when I was baking supper. Maybe it was hiding behind the stove and the heat pushed it out, but we now have a mouse trap with peanut butter on it hoping it will take the bait. The last time one snuck in it took about two days before it found the trap. I'm just hoping it's still in the kitchen and didn't find it's way down the stairs as there is more storage down there especially storage of my daughter which I wouldn't want to get ruined. I had the door open two nights ago while helping my husband bring in a few groceries. I've no idea if it came in then since there's snow on the ground. It's hard to believe it may have been here a week or more already, but...

@CarolDM we've had them before. Least time they found the trap in one to two days time. Once a chipmunk followed me into the house. I blocked off the room with things and then got it back out again by making it's space smaller. The current one may have gone downstairs. I needed to put stickytraps down there to catch it. My son in law recommended that.

They have not destroyed any flowers, not yet anyway. They eat the grass and clover. Yikes, I don't want rodents in my house! Be careful.

We see a lot of animals around here. Deer, moose, coyotes, gophers, lots and lots of gophers in the spring/summer. Now and then I see a fox, skunks, porcupines. Not turkeys. Rabbits I rarely see, but I know they are around because I see their tracks in the winter. Our wild rabbits are white in the winter. Are yours?

Great shot! Up north I see deer, skunks, raccoons, coyotes, red foxes, wild turkeys, turtles, frogs, owls, red tail hawks, a variety of birds and hummingbirds, butterflies, and the occasional rabbit, woodchuck, and snake. In Florida we are on the water, so I see all kinds of beautiful birds, ducks, manatees, and dolphins.
