Right from August despite having no issues with her digestive system, her pancreas, her heart, liver and even her bone structure all being perfect Preiti had odd eating habits. No amount of consultation with Vets and searches on the Net we could pinpoint why she was doing that. But her pacing and walking twenty four hours of the day lately seeking nooks and corners despite having weak limbs which was the result of her starving revealed what was the matter with her. She had progressive ALZHEIMER If we leashed her she would tug and force herself and start walking again. She had collapsed with all that walking a few times and the fourth collapse did not bring her back. Preiti was a perfect, dignified lady, alert, protective, fond of people, lovable;. adorable, disciplined, playful, charming, intelligent and a wonderful companion It is an understatement to say I will miss her but I am happy for her that she is relieved of all the suffering that was to follow had she survived. . .

I can also see these manifestations with my 'Putot.' At the age of 9, she is starting to show forgetfulness. I hope she will still live longer than her age right now. I do think Preiti is enjoying the aging process.

This was least expected. The last two days were unheard of She would walk and walk and push herself in nooks and corners and collapse there. She was trying to climb the stairs which she never does unless one of us is up there. She collapsed on the steps while attempting to do tht. She was just skin and bone Dianne and yet could walk so much She was everything that any pet lover would want to have. A perfect companion. Wonder what she would have had to go through had she survived. Alzheimer is a dreadful disease and it visited our sweet, lovely Preiti - someone so strong and healthy. She did not have a scar on her. The only consolation is God did not let her suffer.

@allknowing It is a dreadful disease, but know that you gave her a wonderful loving home, so much love and care, and companionship, and did everything humanely possible for her while she was ill. It's terrible when a pet who is so well-loved has to go through this. They are family members. Dwell on the joy she brought you and laugh over the funny things she did to help you get through this. I'm so sad for you and so sorry. I told my husband and he sends his deepest sympathy to you, too.

Oh @allknowing . . . I saw a comment on another post and came running to see what happened. I completely missed your post here about Preiti . . . I didn't realize she had passed away. I am so sorry for your loss - I know you adored her greatly - and I have gotten to know your wonderful Preiti through your posts. I know how it is with people having Alzheimer's, but it didn't dawn on me that it could happen to a dog - now that all makes sense. May your Preiti rest in peace - I too am glad she is relieved of the suffering.

Apparently, in spite of your loving care and concern for her, she was not a happy dog. Maybe it is better now that she is not suffering anymore. I know you will always be sad to be missing her and thinking of her.

I cannot say she was not a happy dog These signs manifested only in the last few days She was 12 years old.

@akalinus We did that to a couple of our earlier dogs - one was 16 and the other 14. They were suffering Preiti did not show any signs of suffering but had stopped eating that resulted in her losing her weight and that constant walking non stop tired her collapsing several times and the last collapse did not bring her back. She was a dog that wanted to be a part of whatever we were doing around the house.

@allknowing That is not a bad age. Bigger dogs don't live as long as little dogs. Our dog, Annie, was 12 when we had her put down. She had tumors everywhere and the vet thought she should not keep being in pain and suffering.

That is a terrible news! It is really sad to part away from a pet for so long. The last dog of mine Topaz lived with us for 17 years. I still miss him. But the good thing is that she is relieved of all her pain. May she rest in peace.

I am saying all this that I am happy for her but her loss has yet to sink in. For the last 9 months she had issues with her eating and she lost a lot of weight because of that - just skin and bone and then this pacing in the last two days took her away She was walking non stop with hardly any rest and that our Vet said is a sign of Alzheimer which had she lived would have tortured her no end. She was a robust, healthy girl and this takes her away.

@arunima25 Our little girl despite her not eating showed no signs of weakness until this pacing took her away It was a non stop activity after which she would just collapse. Every part of our home and garden reminds me of her. She was more than an animal more than a human being

Thank you Imagine a pet with advanced Alzheimer. You think I could have gone through with it? Glad that God took her away She was skin and bone and that compulsive walking sapped her of all energy She collapsed several times seeking corners and the last collapse did not get her back. She has lelft behind beautiful memories which I shall cherish for years to come

You'll have much fond memories of her and I guess you got video and pictures to remember her with. I understand, how hard it is to let go, but they are not suffering any longer. I found this helpful site.

Her odd eating ways had all to do with this. I do not blame any of the Vets who could not see it. But this pacing - never saw Preiti doing it in all her 12 years.

It sure sounds like Preiti was very well loved and that she knew you loved her. She clearly gave that love right back to you. I know how special pets are in our lives and how terribly devastating it is when we lose them. She will be in your heart forever, and that way she will live on.
