This is such a shocking discussion in my list of favorite songs with "dance" (or some variation) in the title that I should have myLot post it with a defibrillator. Sometimes I can surprise people with the inclusion of a song (John told me he never pegged me for a Violent Femmes fan, and I'm sure that not too many people think Was (Not Was) sounds good after Hank Williams). Then there's today.
#2: Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Tony Danza's favorite song.
Whodathunkit: Elton sticking a little steel guitar (by B.J. Cole) in a song?! Well, it fits, if you think about it: Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics during the first tour of the U.S. He noted how completely different Los Angeles was from London. And, of course, country-rock was prominent at the time in L.A., with bands like Poco, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, and the fledgling Eagles.
Here's another whodathunkit, just to show how singles can be a snapshot -- good or bad -- of a moment. When "Tiny Dancer" was released as a single in 1971, it didn't even make the Billboard top 40. Today, it's one of Elton's most classic tunes.
And that was before it was used in Almost Famous.

I’ve seen the trailer for it. Amazing how the actor playing Elton looks so much like him.

Just an exquisite song during one of so many musical peaks for this talented Englishman
Such a wonderful musical interpretation of Taupin's lyrics...
