Scary Ordeal Earlier Today

Usually I have a non-eventful day to write about. Not today. I had a scare earlier today and am still not completely over it. I will share if you all don't mind listening. Sorry this is so long, a lot of details to share.
Made up the bed after I got up this morning as always. Had my socks on, no slippers or shoes. I have hardwood floors. There is a small box stool at the foot of the bed for my older cat to get up and down off the bed. It's not very big.
There is a quilt at the foot of my bed. I was folding it, after making the bed. Apparently I straddled the stool and reached across to straighten the quilt, and slipped on the floor with my socks. Both of my legs were stretched across each side of the stool (one foot went one way, the other foot went the other if that makes sense) and both knees were in severe pain, then I fell. On my butt, not my head. I could not talk my knees were hurting so bad.
My husband was in the next room, came running in asking what was wrong and it took a minute to be able to talk and explain what happened. I sat there on the floor for a minute until the pain subsided a little. Then he helped me to the stool, slowly. I started getting so dizzy I could not see anything but the room spinning and got very nauseated like I was going to throw up. Then everything went black.
I woke up on the floor. My husband said I went limp on the stool, passed out. He put me on the floor until I woke up, about two minutes later.
Sorry this is so long.
After laying on the floor a few minutes I got up and he helped me to the bed. I feel ok except very weak and my knees are hurting when I put weight on them.
I am in the recliner with ice and heat, alternating for the pain. Very weak and confused as to what just happened.
Very strange feeling when you pass out, even for a couple of minutes. I did not get up too fast, I don't know why it happened. And I didn't pass out as soon as I fell, it was a few minutes later.
I am one to analyze and try to figure out, so I will probably be awake all night trying to figure this out. Why did it happen?
Any ideas? Has this happened to you before?

Oh wow, that does sound really scary! I am just glad you are okay. I passed out when I was younger, but I don't remember why...and I have passed out more recently but that was because my sugar dropped too low. I hope that someone else here can help better....just glad that he was there to help you to the floor when you passed out.

@CarolDM It does sound very scary, I am sorry you went through that, but thankful you weren't alone! That sounds so painful too! I didn't have time to read the other comments yet, but glad others were able to help better than me with that. Hopefully you will feel better soon!

@1hopefulman Not really for sure but I think it was from the pain and the anxiety from falling. I called my doctor, she said severe pain can cause this, as well as a traumatic event can cause your blood pressure to drop, which in turn can cause fainting. I always thought your blood pressure would get high with stress, but she said it depends on the situation. When you have severe pain, shutting down, as she called it, is our body's way of dealing.

It would not hurt to call a doctor. But pain and fear can cause shock. That could be why.

@wolfgirl569 I had a long night could not get comfortable and still try sore, but feel a little better today. Still going slow taking my time. Funny thing, I have bruises on my knees. Where did that come from, they didn't hit anything. Strange.

Oh, Carol, what a terrible accident! I'm glad you're staying in contact with your doctor and am praying any damage to your knees will heal quickly. Sure glad your husband was there. I've almost passed out a few times when my BP bottomed out. Take care,

Yes that sounds like a scary and painful fall. Hope the ice and heat help otherwise a trip to the doctor is necessary.
The only time I ever passed out I was pregnant and stood up too fast.

@CarolDM I'm sure it will take awhile for your muscles to recover from that fall.

Wow! I'm so sorry. I'm no doctor, so don't know why your knees hurt so badly from the way you had fallen and landed. I hope you didn't tear any ligaments or muscles. Perhaps the pain and the thump on your bottom caused you to faint. If the ice and heat don't help, I'd call a doctor. You certainly don't want to do more damage to your knees. I truly hope you feel better soon from that. Prayers and hugs coming your way.

I know, it is still scary as I told Deborah above. I think I may have pulled tendons or ligaments because I basically did a split with my socks on the slippery hardwoods. And I was trying to brace myself from falling, I could feel my knees in severe pain from the stress I guess and my knees is what I was trying to use to keep my legs from slipping. I don't know. It is hard to explain, it all happened so fast. My doctor told me to rest and keep the ice and heat today, and come in if not better soon. Thank you so much.

I'm not a doctor so wouldn't even begin to diagnose.
The fact that you passed out and continue to be dizzy suggests that a visit to the doctor is in order. Be careful with your health....it's not something to mess with.

I think you hit a nerve because how you described what happened also happened to me but when I got cut by a nail.
The nail was hanging off a board and I did not see it, raised my hand and it ripped deep into the skin on the back of my hand. I felt exactly as you described I was alone and I just sat on the ground for a minute, or I don`t know how long. I went inside and stopped the bleeding and those feeling went away. I have a 2 inch scar on my hand.

Hi Carol. I'm sorry you had that accident. I do hope your knees aren't seriously injured!
I have been a fainter all of my life. A sudden shock, especially involving pain, will cause my bp to drop fast and I'm outta here! LOL It's really not funny but I try to keep a sense of humor about it.
It often takes a minute or two for me to actually faint after the onset of pain, especially if I sit upright or stand too quickly. Blood not getting to the head fast enough can cause fainting!
Based on my own experiences, I agree with your doctor.
