New Floral Curtains

I do so love shopping for new curtains, especially when they're on sale. And I seem to prefer mostly floral prints. Today I chanced upon a massive curtain sale at a department store near my daughters' school. One panel costs only Php 99 (a little less than $2). Naturally I took advantage of it and bought six! ;o)
I wanted to buy more but I was on a budget, so I'll have to schedule the next curtain splurge for another day. I also plan to buy new pillow cases as the ones that we have are no longer good. I'm thankful that there are so many beautiful home items that are on sale at this department store. I get to save a lot without having to settle for poor quality.

@MALUSE exactly and imagine the tons of garment, fabric we throw yearly.... where do these fabric going, to the dumping sites.
our sisters give their old curtains to us. because they are not old at all. so no waste.
usually how many year will your curtains be before you will decide to give them away?

i hand them down to my weekend housekeeper or to anyone in the neighborhood who might want them. the very tattered ones i put altogether in a plastic bag and leave at the doorstep. there's always a rag maker willing to pick them up.

That's a good buy, rather than buying the fabric and hire a sewer, which charges from 50 to 100 per panel, depending on the design.

that's true. years ago, when i was a new homemaker, my mother-in-law had some curtains made for our new home. i believe she spent Php 400 for the sewing + the cost of the cloth. and this was in 2005. and to be honest, i wasn't so impressed with the quality of the cloth and the sewing at all. this is why i prefer to buy ready-made curtains, especially when they're on sale. i think it's worth my money and i get to choose from a wide array of prints.

i did the same last month. i accidentally found them in the other supermarket that i go to about once a month. but i still took them to the "mananahi" to double the stitches.

@almostoveryou i actually love those - so much easier to slide through the rod. but this one has the rings (grommet?) because they're floor length. i just wanted to make sure they don't fray after each wash.
what else can you sew? how did you learn to sew?

@hereandthere i can sew pillow cases too. I learned sewing in grade school and high school. It was harder in hs because we had to sew our own apron and prom dress. I did very poorly at those. I do better at embroidery and cross-stitch.

custom made is always a good thing, especially if it's done by a professional. we haven't had curtains in our kitchen because there's only one window and it's the only ventilation there.

@MALUSE that's good to know. i've been wanting to change the old and tattered curtains that i inherited from my mother-in-law because i don't like the fabric and the colors. little by little i dispose of them and buy new curtains that look more appealing to my eyes. thankfully my husband and daughters appreciate the new and prettier curtains that we have now. and hopefully we would be using these beautiful curtains for a long, long time.

I am currently looking for curtains for a spare room I just painted yellow. For some reason I seem to be able to locate any that I want for the room. But, never fear, I will keep looking. I am not looing online. I want something light and airy, probably floral. How lucy you are to finde such a goode deal on your curtains.

Yes, I prefer light and airy curtains as well. I don't like curtains that are dark and thick.

@almostoveryou I have the dark heavy curtains in my bedroom. Light blockers I think they are called. But, I only have them there because it is easier to take a nap during the day.

I'm looking for a new curtain for my bathroom. I'm thinking of changing my color scheme but have yet to decide what color. So, my hesitation on buying something new.

do you go by themes or do you have your own usual preferences? i try to go by the season (tropical and the usual 4 seasons), though by default i'm drawn to curtains with dainty floral prints.
