My Little Peaceful Haven

On Friday a swimming friend and I travelled north to swim at the Taranaki Masters Games in a tiny town called Stratford here in New Zealand. We stayed at a holiday park down the road from the pool, in the little tourist cabin shown above. It was small, but all we needed for the night. The cottage was set in bush surroundings and was such a peaceful place. We listened to birds singing and felt at peace with the world on the autumn afternoon. It was there we learned of the horrific shootings a few hundred miles away down in Christchurch. It was hard to believe that such horror was happening while we were immersed in such peaceful surroundings.

@amadeo we're known as a very green country, with only four and a half million people. Lots of space, forests, mountains, lakes, rivers and of course ocean all around.

It was a cute little cabin. Self contained and backing onto a little patch of lovely NZ native bush / forest. All anyone needs for a night or two. The holiday park also had basic cabins with communal facilities and tent and motor home sites. But there weren't too many people around. So peaceful.

The shootings were a terrible thing. No doubt we will hear of more in our years ahead, but these never make sense.

We always thought it happened in other countries. No one is safe anywhere any more.

I've stayed in several similar cabins while on holiday, and they are perfectly adequate. So sorry about the carnage in your country.

I actually find it quite refreshing to have minimal things around me. Yes, our country has had quite a shock.

That little cottage looks just like where I would enjoy spending the rest of my days. It is a peaceful place to inspire. Yes, often when I have heard of senseless acts of terror I have always marveled at the fact that I am in peaceful surrounding while elsewhere the world has gone mad.

Are.the windows and doors just like that , with glass but with no grills? Maybe if i have known that a little distance from that cozy house a shooting happened, i would have a trepidation of staing there overnight.
